Blog being flagged as malware, help needed.

    Hello. My blog (http://tellysquawks.com) is being flagged by McAfee, but not Avast or other in-browser virus protection add-ons. It's a big problem as I've been working very hard to boost readership, things have been going well and we've recently been linked to by the BBC and the Guardian, which is great.

    I've run it through URL scanners and it's showing as linked to BitDefender and Trendmicro, both malware sites. I can't see my code as I'm not self-hosted and I can't find any spam comments. Any ideas on how I sort this out? And should I take it offline to prevent it being crawled by Google in the meantime?

    The blog I need help with is mariecurieceilidh.wordpress.com.

    I think I'm having a similar/related problem and I'm truly stumped. I just received an email from a friend stating that they're getting the following message when browsing my blog:

    STOP! Bitdefender blocked this web page.

    The page you are trying to access contains malware.

    Details:
    Web Page: http://gentlewit.com/

    Access from your browser has been blocked.

    A quick Internet search brought me to the BitDefender website which has rather a lot of WordPress blogs noted as false positives.

    You are not by chance hotlinking to images hosted elsewhere? If so, that might be the problem, as virusscanners will see all the malware hosted on that site as if it is on your own.

    To further on Rain's reply: » Even linking to a website that has been blacklisted can trigger a alert with various antivirus software...

    I use Webroot and I checked both site links listed above and was not presented with any alert of malware infection...

    If neither of you guys hot-linked a image or linked to a questionable site then most likely your readers are experiencing the Antivirus software giving off a false positive alert...
