Blog cannot be found on browsers, message: DNS error - Server Can't be Found

    I posted this issue to the Forum a few hours ago but still having the problem. Our site does not show up on Safari or Firefox as viewed on two computers and when I type in the URL I receive the message, "DNS error. Server can't be found."

    The domain name is paid up, in fact it renewed just a couple of days ago. I followed WP instructions a few hours ago that said to upload a new page or post and see if that helps. I did, and it didn't help. (The site is not a true blog, but several static pages.)

    We've had this site for at least a year and have never had this problem before -- and it worked fine 24 hours ago. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.

    The blog I need help with is cityofmosier.com.

    It can take up to 72 hours for the DNS to settle down once a new URL has been added to the blog, but an old one renewed in time shouldn't have that issue. What is the underlying URL with .wordpress.com in it?

    It looks like it's set up correctly, but temporarily, if you can get to the dashboard, perhaps set that second URL as primary for now. IT should work on its own.

    I know staff are tinkering with the URL system today so that might be part of the issue.

    Thanks very much, Raincoaster. I set that secondary URL to be primary. Don't see a change yet, but maybe it takes some time. In any case, I very much appreciate your taking the time to check it out.

    And your comment about staff tinkering with the URL system today gives me hope that things will straighten out soon!

    My site has been down for about 24 hours now with the same DNS error message. Last night I changed the primary URL to the secondary URL because that URL works (shows up in browsers). WP instructions say it will redirect to the original URL, but after 2-3 hours it did not. So I have switched back to the original URL (cityofmosier.com) and the DNS error message continues to show up. Really need to get this site back up. Thank you.

    The domain cityofmosier.com no longer exists.

    It is mapped here, but your registration appears to have expired on August 11.

    While you're getting that sorted out with your domain registrar, you can change you blog's primary domain via Store -> Domains at https://mosiercitycouncil.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

    Thank you Raincoaster and macmanx. I thought it was paid because I saw that it would renew in 2013. But I will check with our bookkeeper.

    Yes, it's the mapping with us that was paid, but your domain is registered elsewhere.

    http://dreamhost.com/ appears to have been your domain registrar.
