Blog doesnt look like Oxygen sample

  1. I uploaded info and the blog is not looking no where near the sample. As a matter of fact, the only image that came up at the top cuts the face off. HELP!

The blog I need help with is antheamcgibbon.wordpress.com.

  2. When you chnage themes you may have to resize images to fit the dimensions required by the new theme. Also note that this theme has customizable options.

    Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. ... Oxygen theme description
    Oxygen live demo site

  3. Featured Images
To get the most of this theme, setting Featured Images is important. Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide.

  4. I installed the Oxygen theme (which is nothing short of beautiful, by the way) on one of my self-hosted blogs, following theme creator's instructions:

    • Created a static page using the Front page template (as the Showcase template is nowhere to be found – checked the editor for the php file, too)
    • Went to setting -> Reading and set the Front page to static, selecting Front page (as Showcase still not available)
    • Added a huge photo (some 2048 pixels) to initial Hello world! post, as a featured picture, of course
    • Made the post sticky
    • Parked the post in the Featured location (lower right corner)
    • Even made a Featured category, to be on the safe side
    • And zip, zilch, nada

Now I suspect it's all to do with the missing Showcase template. If I could only get my hands on it, I'm sure the problem goes away. Cause this isn't a WordPress.com theme only, is it (which would account for my problems)?

Looking forward to hear from you guys. Thanks!

  5. @jarlep, sorry, your site is self-hosted and self-hosted wordpress sites are supported at the WordPress.org forums, and actually this is something you need to take up with the theme designer. Also, you cannot apply the information here at wordpress.com to your self-hosted Oxygen theme. There have been heavy modifications made to the theme here to work with the modified wordpress software used here, and to fit within the restrictions here.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently.

If you are not familiar with the differences, see this support document.

  6. Sorry about that. As an avid user of both WP.com and WP.org blogs and sites for some five or six years (I've been keeping a large number of both, on various URLs), I'm most aware of the difference, but did, in all honesty, consider Automattic as Automattic. And that's that.

    Obviously not.

  7. Clearly I do know that some WP.com functions are unavailable to WP.org users, unless embedded in Jetpack, and certainly vice-versa, in terms of plugins, but wasn't aware of the fact that a theme issued for both platforms lacked crucial functionality in the latter. Now that I do, thanks to you, I'll address the issues in the appropriate forum, of course (which, initially, suspected to be of no consequence in this matter, seeing as a theme is a theme is a theme – or then again: perhaphs not).

    Thanks a million.

  8. Not a problem and good luck.

  9. how do i get the neat black background menu shown on the oxygen demo site on the left side? the one that lists books, featured, photos etc as white text on black background. are these the categories or tags? i haven't been able to figure out how to duplicate this yet so any help is appreciated.

  10. ^ I second twodog's question. I have absolutely no idea how to do that. I've tried out the custom menus, but they don't have anything that allows for that sort of customization.

Yes! I'm having the same issue. Can someone provide a super-novice explanation of how to accomplish this? And also if I should assume that all wordpress themes require coding knowledge to get what the demo displays?

  12. Ok. Go to the menus section. There is a place for a secondary menu -- this is the one that controls the 'black background, white text' menu. Choose your secondary menu there and everything should display just fine.

    All good?
