Hello,
I'm trying to register a certain name for a blog, but the name is already taken. However, after some searching I found out it's no longer taken, but deleted (that is: the owner has deleted the account). Can I somehow get that name? It's rather important to have a similar match to the one that's already registered on Twitter, Second Life etc.

I, too, would like to use a certain name for my blog. The difference is that the name I want belongs to me! I have an old blog that I didn't maintain. I'd delete it so I can use its name on my new blog, but from your post, that sounds like it wouldn't help anything.

femdomtimes, I’m sorry, but we do not reuse or reassign deleted blog names on WordPress.com. You will need to select a different blog name. For full details, please see:

There is one other option available to you, though. You can purchase a domain name and map that back to your WordPress.com blog. In that case, nobody would ever see the underlying WordPress.com URL. They would just see your purchased domain. For full details, please see:

eclecticdreamer, I'm sorry, but deleted blogs cannot be restored or reused. Deleting a blog is permanent and the name cannot be used again. There are several warnings about this on the Tools -> Delete Site page and in the help pages, and you are required to confirm the deletion by email.

You can start a new blog by logging in to WordPress.com and then going to http://en.wordpress.com/signup/
With any blog, you can also use your custom domain with Domain Mapping upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

What if I just exported everything from the newer blog to the old one? Wouldn't I
then be able to use all of my 'stuff', while having it under the name I want? Kat
Yes, that would work. Then set the old one to Private so Google doesn't see you have the same content in two different places; they penalize people for that.
Thank you Macmanx for your information. Although it's disappointing to hear, to say the least. It's a rather rigid policy and - to my opinion - totally unnecessary. But hey: you don't make the rules, I know :-) Selecting a different blog name is not an option I'm afraid, so unfortunately we have to skip WordPress and join others who're more flexible and understanding. You could always try Whatever.org or Whatever.net or Whatever.me or Whatever.co instead of Whatever.com
