Blog not displaying properly

  1. Anyone know why my blog is not displaying properly ? It shows some posts but none of the features (calendar, top posts, etc. )
    Lou

The blog I need help with is talesfromthelou.wordpress.com.

  2. Have you gone here > Appearance > Widgets and installed the widgets of your choice?

  3. Yes, the widgets seem to be OK. Am I the only one with this problem ?

  4. I have a different problem this morning. My widgets are way down on the page. I thought they were gone, but they are just in a weird place. I'm at http://www.redwhiteandgrew.com

They must be working on something.

  5. The correct URL for your blog is http://redwhiteandgrew.com/
The reason your sidebar has fallen and is displaying below your posts is either due to copying and pasting or it can also be a result of importing text containing invalid HTML.
Typically this is caused by an open HTML tag.

Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

If you have been copying and pasting text from elsewhere without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor, please see here so you know how to do this correctly in the future. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

  6. And now it's miraculously fixed. I have no idea what happened.

  7. @talesfromthelou
Have you done any CSS editing on your theme? Have you created a custom menu?

  8. What about me ? How come my blog is not displaying properly ? I'm losing viewers by the minute ! Help !

If you have been copying and pasting text from elsewhere without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor, this can be the result.

  10. No, no CSS editing at all. Have not changed or touched a thing since yesterday. Don't even know what CSS editing is.

  11. @talesfromthelou
Have you done any CSS editing on your theme?

  12. Thanks.

You're right. I did write the URL incorrectly.

And I had gone into a post to correct something and THEN it was resolved. So, I accidentally repaired it.

I will go make that selection in settings.

  13. Oops! We were typing at the same time.

  14. @poprice
Everyone ought to have that setting activated on their blog. :) Best wishes.

  15. Blog still not displaying properly...

  16. @talesfromthelou
Have you created a custom menu and installed the custom menu widget?

If so go to the custom menu page in the dashboard Appearance > Menus and in the “theme location” module at upper left select the correct custom menu from the pull-down and then click “save”.

If another Volunteer cannot help you then you will have to contact Staff.

  17. @talesfromthelou - have you tried the suggestions above by @TT?

  18. Thanks auxclass, tried suggestions to no avail. Still not displaying properly

  19. @talesfromthelou
Your theme is balckletterhead and yet I'm not seeing a black background. Did you upload a background image? If so then please remove that background image and see if that corrects the display.

  20. edit: typo "balckletterhead" was meant to be "blackletterhead"

  21. No, no upload.

  22. Also have you been copying and pasting from elsewhere? Go to Settings > Writing and select “ ___ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then scroll down and click “Save Changes.”

Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “Update Post.” Check your blog and see if it is back to normal.

  23. I've tried everything. Nothing works. My posts are displayed but no widgets, no older entries link, nothing. Just the posts and they are not displaying properly. This is getting to be painful and I am thinking of moving to another blog site. How's Blogger ?Any ideas ? Could the blog have been hacked ? HELP ME !

  24. BTW: I switched themes and the same thing happens.

  25. Any ideas? Apparently you didn't read the reply I linked to.

  26. Thanks Pana: I just went and put all my posts from the last 2 days in the trash and the blog is working again ! Now I got to figure out which one did this ? Re-instate them one by one until I find the culprit ?
    Thank you,
    Lou
BTW: I felt like I lost my best friend. I'm definitely hooked on blogging !

  27. You're welcome. But you didn't have to trash the posts: my instructions would have corrected them.
If you're curious to know which one was the culprit, yes add them back one by one till the blog front gets messed up again. If you're curious to know what exactly caused it and you're not familiar with HTML, leave the culprit on and uncorrected for a while so we can check its sourcecode and tell you. But I can tell you in advance that it's probably an unclosed or stray div tag.
