Blog not displaying properly, as if it doesn't have a theme

    I've performed all the suggestions listed on the support page for display problems: cleaned my cache, cleared cookies, updated Firefox to the latest version, updated Flash Player, even tried rebooting my computer. The problem has persisted for more than 24 hours and nothing has helped.

    If I log out, go to wordpress.com and log in fresh, then go to my main blog page, it displays correctly.

    But as soon as I do anything, like edit, or post a new post, the pages display as if they have no theme applied. It's a plain white page, everything is left justified, the links are blue, and all the sidebar stuff is to the left at the bottom. Also the dark strip at the top that allows direct access to the dashboard, etc. disappears.

    I clicked on several blogs on the Freshly Pressed page and most of them displayed correctly. I found one that was displaying like mine, but it's using a different theme, so this problem does not appear to be limited to just the Mysty Look Theme, which is what I am using.

    I waited a day to see if the problem would correct itself, but since it's still happening I figured I better ask about it. I saw a couple other posts mentioning the same thing, but not listing all the steps tried to attempt to correct it. I wanted to be really specific to try and get better, faster help.

    I am not having problems with pages displaying oddly on any other website I've visited.

    I should have added, I've loaded my blog in MSIE, and it behaves the same way. So this is not limited to a browser issue either.

    I have flagged this thread for Staff attention. Will you please answer thw questions that follow so they have something to work with?
    (1) How are are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com?

    I'm asking because the way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. Also note that the main dashboard isn’t designed to work with touch devices through the tablet and smartphone browsers.

    (2) Exactly which browser and version of it are you using. If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
    Note: If you are running IE9 in compatibility mode then be aware that it renders as IE7 and IE7 is not supported.

    (3) Have you tried?
    clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
    using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
    updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
    using another browser

    (4) Are you logging in using the secure https:// log-in? see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

    I'm having the same problem on a fast and reliable DSL connection, on a desktop pc, in multiple browsers. I've been pressing f5.

    I also find that my dashboard looks totally unstyled, too. However, when I click around to different sections of the dashboard some of these are styled. It certainly feels like a stylesheet isnt loading and it sems to be a problem with wordpress, not my connection or browsing environment.

    I can live with it for now as I'm just starting my blog but I hope it's not permanant.

    1) Clear wireless 4G with a Windows XP desktop.

    2) Latest version of Firefox (updated shortly before I posted) - also tried with IE, which I believe is v8

    3) Yes, I listed all the steps I've tried at the start of my post.

    4) I don't think so, I just go to wordpress.com.

    I'd like to underline again that if I log out of WordPress and log back in, my blog displays properly.

    It only gets messed up after I take some other action and then click to view the page or load my blog directly by typing the URL into the address bar on my browser.

    One more thing. I just went to http://hungerkunstlerin.wordpress.com/ since they posted with the same issue. That blog is displaying without the theme applied, just like my blog. We are using two different themes.

    All of the blogs are displaying correctly for me. I'm in Canada on a small island on the far west coast, on DSL and using Firefox 15 on windows XP.

    Timethief, your blog linked to your user name in your post is displaying as a plain page for me when I clicked on it.

    Can you go to that blog and do something like edit a post and update it. Then once the update is done, click on the link to view it. See if that makes things messed up for you or if it has no effect? (You don't have to actually edit a post, just load the edit window and click update with no changes made.)

    I'm wondering if that will make it so you can see what we're seeing, or not.

    I won't be on the computer again until late tonight, so won't see any more replies for a few hours. But I'll check back then to see if any more info has been added.

    It sounds like your ISP is having an issue. Sometimes they block parts of WP.com and it sounds like they've blocked the CSS images. Could you contact them and ask?

    Same here. Have done all of the above, not only from different browsers but also IP. Exact same issue as seattlerobin.

    Raincoaster, why do you keep harping on contacting our ISPs? We all have different service providers. One of the people posting in the other thread is from Brazil or something.

    Today I'm having worse problems. In addition to what I described in my original series of posts concerning my specific blog, I could not get to this forum thread in any of the usual ways.

    I tried following the link from the emails I got indicating there were replies. When I clicked on the link the page wouldn't load.

    When I went to the WordPress site and went to the support area and clicked on the Forums link a plain white page with "No site configured at this address" at the top is all that came up. (I tried this several times, using the link on different pages, with the same result each time.)

    I went to the support area again and did a search on the words "doesn't display properly" and this thread came up in the results. When I clicked on it I was finally able to get to this page again.

    I take it there aren't any staff available on the weekend since we haven't received any help?

    Forgot to mention, when trying to get to this thread, sometimes the main WordPress pages were displaying oddly also, sometimes they displayed normally.

    My page with the statistics has a problem. Besides the main page of my blog, which is in white background, as if there is no theme...

    That staff reply wasn't any help. They said it sounded like a local network issue. But people in several countries with different ISPs are experiencing the same problems.

    Another issue that I just ran into, that I'm sure must be related, is I tried to post a comment on someone else's blog a little bit ago, but the comment form wasn't working properly. I only saw a narrow box, couldn't read what I typed, and my comment didn't appear on the page after I submitted. No comments from anyone were displaying for me at all on the page.

    This made sound like a silly request but it's not as it has worked for others. If you have not been using the secure http:// login please log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, reboot and log in using the secure https:// link and report to us what if anything changes when you do that.

    @seattlerobin, other than suggesting to you that you try the link that designsimply has posted to check whether you are able to load the CSS style sheet or not, as well as post the information that designsimply has requested in that thread, I have no other suggestions for you.

    Also, check and see if you get any errors on these three links. They are CSS files on three different wordpress systems.

    Timethief, sorry I should have maybe mentioned it earlier. After it was brought up in this thread I did check and I have been accessing my blog using https when I use the history drop down in the browser address bar.

    I did some more testing now, doing a fake edit of one of my posts (loaded the edit page but clicked the Update button without changing anything) and when I clicked on the View Page link at the top it took me to the unformatted version of the post page.

    When doing that, it doesn't use https apparently, just the regular link.

    So maybe that is a key to whatever is going on.

    The problem is though, when I'm following links to other people's blogs from various places around the net, their blogs are often either not loading properly at all, or parts of the pages are loading fine and parts are not. (For instance, I've noticed on a few this morning that their like section isn't formatted.)

    I don't think having to remember to insert an "s" every time I follow a link while browsing around the web or working on my blog is a very good solution. ;) Hopefully this will help further to discern what the heck is going on.

    https is only for your dashboard. All other pages display via http.

    Please see my post just above yours and test those links and let us know if you see the stylesheet or an error.

    Sorry to keep adding stuff, but I figure it's worth mentioning, I haven't actually had any problems with my Dashboard displaying correctly. Every time I've loaded it over the last day and a half (which has been quite a lot with all the testing) it has been fine.

    All of my problems have been on actual blog pages and the WordPress pages.

    So I'm having the same problem and if I access my blog using https:// then it all works. If I happen to click a link the leads out of the secure page, then it all goes to hell again. If I then go to the address bar and add https:// to the address then it rights itself. This isn't a solution but it seems to be a good work around. I haven't actually tried to post anything, but I'll be doing that this afternoon and will let you all know how it goes.

    I can load all the CSS files justjennifer suggested. I have no problem loading CSS. But my WP blog was still unstyled. Editing a post then clicking view page didn't work for me.

    I've now changed to another theme ("neutra") which displays with stylesheets with both secure and unsecure URLs. Although unsecure messes up the admin nav bar thingy, https:// seems to fix that. And that's just a problem for me, not other people trying to view the blog so I can live with that for now.

    Oh and the dashboard is also displaying OK now.
    Still a bit confused though.

    Figured I should update. I'm not sure that things are completely resolved, but tonight I don't seem to be having the problems I've reported in my previous posts.

    My blog seems to be behaving correctly, at least for now, though I only did brief testing.

    I also went to a blog that I'd had trouble commenting on yesterday, and was able to successfully post a comment.
