Blog not displaying properly on IE

  1. The CSS changes that I made do not reflect on all browsers. For example, the changed version can be seen on Chrome but not on IE. Please help!

    The blog I need help with is udaynarayanan.com.

  2. Which version of IE are your referring to please? WordPress.com supports the most recent versions of the browsers found here http://browsehappy.com

  3. Note I used IE11 and saw the same display I get in Firefox 29.

  4. Thank you timethief for you response. I was using IE 9.0. Didn't know WP supports only the latest versions.

  5. IE6, 7 and 8 have sort of fallen by the wayside due to the fact there is so much current CSS they do not support, but IE9 should be fine.

    I don't have IE9 installed at the moment, but I'll get it installed shortly, but can you tell us what isn't displaying properly?

  6. Hi Richard. I had applied CSS to remove the date from individual posts. The dates don't show in Google Chrome but they appear when I open through IE.

  7. Hi, I'm seeing the following in your custom CSS, that I think you are using to remove the date on single post pages:

    .single .entry-date {
        display: none;
    }

    Change that to the following instead.

    .single-metainfo {
        display: none;
    }
  8. Wow! That worked! Many thanks Richard.

    Got a couple more questions:
    1) How can I change the text style of the header title to 'normal'? I would like it to be 'Slice of Life'. Currently it is 'Slice Of Life'

    2) In the comment section, 'Enter your comment here' is out of the comment box when viewed in IE. However, it is perfectly ok when viewed in Chrome.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. 1) How can I change the text style of the header title to 'normal'? I would like it to be 'Slice of Life'. Currently it is 'Slice Of Life'

    #logo h1 a, .desc {
        text-transform: none;
    }

    If you only wish to change the title, then use this instead:

    #logo h1 a {
        text-transform: none;
    }

    2) In the comment section, 'Enter your comment here' is out of the comment box when viewed in IE. However, it is perfectly ok when viewed in Chrome.

    Is that on IE9? I'm not seeing that issue on 10 or 11. I'm going to download 9 and install in my VM, but it will take a while.

  10. If in IE9, have you tried setting Compatibility Mode either on or off (depending on which it is now)?

  11. Hi Richard, the titile font was changed successfully. I changed IE to compatibility mode but the problem still persists. You've checked IE 10 and 11 so I guess it is only with IE9.

  12. @udaynarayanan, I'm attempting the download of the IE9 VM again this morning. It has failed on me a couple times. Hopefully it had a good rest over the weekend and is ready to download. :) I can then see if I can find a way to get thing to display properly in IE9 for you.

  13. 2) In the comment section, 'Enter your comment here' is out of the comment box when viewed in IE. However, it is perfectly ok when viewed in Chrome.

    I tested this page: http://udaynarayanan.com/2014/04/20/beyond-the-darkness/

    In IE9 on Windows 7 and I found that the text "Enter your comment here" appears inside the comment box where it should (although it looks like black text on a black background so a did a search to highlight it yellow in the screenshot). Here is a screenshot of what I saw in my test:

    I think it's still functional in IE9, and for older browsers the first goal is to be functional, so I think it should be okay as long as you're okay with it. :)

    If your browser looks different, there could be a local browser setting affecting it—or it could be something else that I'm unable to see in my testing for some reason. If you haven't heard any complaints from your users and you're getting plenty of comments, I suspect it's not a problem for your visitors.

  14. @designsimply - yes i guess it's got to do with some problems with my browser. Thanks a ton to you and Richard for being so prompt and patient :)

  15. Cheers :)
