Blog on sale

  1. I would like to sell my blog, mrinaltech.wordpress.com for $300 (negotiable). It's doing quite good (10,000 visitors in 80 days) but i've lost incentive to update it regularly. Paypal payments would be perfect. @mods: If this is not the relevant section, please move it there :D

  2. Read the Terms of Service? http://en.wordpress.com/tos/ specifically

The Website is owned and operated by Automattic, Inc.

which to me means you can't sell what you don't actually own.

Oh wait...This was moved from Support to Off Topic and the m-look tag removed. Does this mean that we can sell our WordPress.com blogs? Clarification, please?

  3. It's your blog, your content so I guess you can sell it.
As with a lot of things it's flexible. For instance if someone starts registering blogs and then selling them that's not good, not allowed. It's name squatting and just done to rip people off.
But if you have a blog and you want to sell it? Can't see why you shouldn't.

Like anything though find our what you get:
    - do you get all the content?
    - do you get all the comments?
    - do you get all the uploads?
    - do you get any upgrades?
    - the original owner will lose their stats and akismet key
    - the original owner will have no claim at all on anything ever again in that blog. So if the new owner wants to put porn on it that's fine. If they put warez on and it gets suspended that won't look good for the old owner, if the blog gets suspended the original owner cannot have it back.
    - if the original owner sells and the new owner claims that money back (through a credit card / paypal) this is not our problem and we would not get involved.

So if you want to buy a blog be very very clear and if you want to sell be very careful.

Would I pay $300 for a blog? I wouldn't pay $300 for a good domain name let alone a blog.

  4. I have looked and I'll give you 50p for it ...

  5. Great answer. ; )

  6. That is a blog FOR sale. Until the price is reduced, it is not ON sale.

  7. okay..... i thought quoting a higher price would be great if someone took it seriously... ;D

    my final price is $100

  8. Here's the thing:
How do they get their $100 back? If they can't run ads then why pay for it?

  9. Basically, someone is paying $100 for 9,292+ visits and 9 posts? And as Mark said, how do you get $100 back?

Personally, I'm against selling blogs. If you don't have inspiration or initiative, close it temporarily, and don't think about it. :> One day you could just continue, instead of starting over.

    Cheers :>

  10. I could make $100 every three days at that rate!

I've known loads of bloggers who sold their Blogger blogs. I wondered if we could here and we can just as long as you're not name squatting. I was even asked to sell my blog. Considering it was an anonymous person & the kind of people I deal with everyday having to do with my blog, I said no. I would say no anyway. I wouldn't mind starting over again but always fearing what they would do with the blog with "my name" attached to it. Eh.

  12. @Mark : well... they can transfer it to their own host and set up the redirections and then display ads.

    @wikeed: was that a compliment?

  13. oops... change above @wikeed to @raincoaster... my bad

  14. UPDATE: I sold it for Rs. 7000 (~$150) today :P

As they say, if there's a donkey that can bray, he's probably buying your stuff on eBay:P

  15. You can't transfer a Whatever.wordpress.com URL. Does your purchaser know that?

  16. I meant you can't redirect one. So he'll have to start from scratch more or less with a simple "sorry, you need to go to our new site" page at Wordpress.com.

    And no.

  17. :) Who cares?

  18. You asked. Apparently, you do.

  19. And I thought I heard it all, now blogs are being sold? I saw the blog, I wouldnt want it if you'd pay me :P Maybe I should put up mine...duh

  20. The email address in the blog has not changed to reflect a new owner.
No new users have been added to reflect a potential new owner.

  21. Maybe too proud to admit that there were no buyers what-so-ever? hehe

  22. This whole thing just feels kind of... not cool.
If the blog was a really major blog with lots of traffic and work put into it, I could understand it somewhat, but as of now, I'd feel bad for any potential buyer, especially since wordpress.com is a free service...
