Blog Traffic

  1. Traffic to my Blog has dropped significantly over the past couple of weeks and has been almost non-existent this weekend. Are other bloggers having similar problems? Any idea what may be causing this? I sent WordPress.com support a query about this a week ago with no response.

  2. Hi. In order to assist you, we need the URL of your blog, starting with http:// please. Thanks.

  3. Sorry to hear you did not get an answer from WordPress.com, but on the other hand, I doubt they are responsible for any variations in your blog's traffic.

I found this forum topic for you. I hope you find the information within useful.

  4. Thanks, let's see if any of this information works. I went from 1500 visits daily, with days each month of over 2000 hits, to just over 500 hits per day! Something seems to be wrong somewhere...

  5. Hi, thegreatone22, I seem to be having the same kind of experience as you. Since I started my blogs with wordpress this past September my best viewings was on a day I had 62 hits, since then it has continued to decline. Some days I might not even have a single viewing on my site.I guess there might be things they're looking for that they don't see or that my topics do not impress them. Presently I write about political and socio-economic issues that actually reflect on the republicans and and their hypocricy. I have a feeling that might contribute to the problem.

  6. I don't believe the topic you're writing about has anything to do with your reduction in traffic. As I stated earlier, I've been getting upwards of 1500 hits a day pretty much since about May of this year, and the significant reduction in hits during the last several weeks tells me there's something wrong with WordPress, as I can't imagine such a decrease in web engine referrers occurring so abruptly.

By the way, I cover just about any topic on my Blog, this is why I say that I don't believe the primary focus of you blog has anything to do with your minimized traffic numbers.

This report indicates that your blog appears to need Staff intervention so I will flag this thread for Staff attention.

The same appears to apply to your blog as well. See here > http://ismyblogworking.com/a2zventures5351.wordpress.com

Sorry I forgot to include your username above.

  11. @timethief: I saw that message before appear on other people's blogs, but when I refresh the page, it dissapears. Maybe it's an intermittent error message on ismyblogworking's end?

  12. @airodyssey
Gosh, I haven't experienced that so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Maybe it is an intermittent error message on ismyblogworking's end. Staff will let us know whether that's the case or not.

  13. I am having a similar problem with http://managementpocketbooks.wordpress.com - smaller but consistent hits at 40-50 perday then a cliff down to 10-20 per day from Sept 23.

@timethief, I get similar errors on the ismyblogworking site (blow). How do I get staff attention? or can you help?

    Many thanks

    Mike

  14. I write managementpocketbooks.wordpress.com for the publisher, but I have now tried some of my own blogs on ismyblogworking - they all show the same errors.

So, is this a systemic problem with some wordpress.com blogs (my self hosted wordpress.org blog is fine) or is ismyblogworking not working, leaving the reason for stats drops to my (and maybe @thegreatone22's) blog unexplained?

    Many thanks
    Mike

  15. Hi Mike,
I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to your question. I have clicked and refreshed the ismyblogworking page like airodyssey said and when I do that the error messages disappear. I flagged this thread so Staff will tell us what's going on.

  16. Those errors relate to the ismyblogworking.com site. One tip-off is that you can see the same errors for non-WordPress.com sites. For example, I tried google.com and saw the same thing.

  17. @designsimply
Thank you so much for answering and for your tip too. It's appreciated. :)

  18. So, that leaves the question of the sudden drop in stats wide open. Ouch.

  19. Yes indeed it does. The causes of drop in traffic are many and specific to each blog and blogger. Most causes have no relationship to software issues. Provided the sites are up and available to visitors the other causes must be examined.

  20. I emailed the site owner and the ismyblogworking.com issues should be fixed now.

  21. @designsimply
Thanks so much for doing that. :)

  22. Same frustrating problem here http://nutritastic.wordpress.com I have the blog over a year now and views were gradually increasing to an average of 160/day but since last week they dropped to 20/day- How can this be fixed? As i am not an expert wordpress blogger, any help would much appreciated...

  23. I have been poking around in a curious yet amateur way...

Does anyone know about Google's new Panda version 2.5 update to its search algorithm? I'm reading that a lot of big sites are getting a big change to their rankings - winners and losers. Could this be systemically affecting a number of WordPress blogs?

Nutritastic's experience mirrors mine and it is somewhat dispiriting to feel my investment has suddenly lost value in such a dramatic way.

  24. Does anyone know about Google's new Panda version 2.5 update to its search algorithm?

The Panda version 2.5 update to Google's search algorithm is in operation and is aimed at detecting duplicate content, and other means people use to attempt to SEO game the algorithm. etc. If all your global sites have low quality links, duplicate content, and are on a subdirectory, then Google's Panda update will likely cause you problems. The update can potentially affect eCommerce sites that have product descriptions duplicated across many other sites. However, free hosted WordPress.com blogs cannot be equipped for ecommerce transactions.

In the rare cases in which Google perceives that duplicate content may be shown with intent to manipulate our rankings and deceive our users, we'll also make appropriate adjustments in the indexing and ranking of the sites involved. As a result, the ranking of the site may suffer, or the site might be removed entirely from the Google index, in which case it will no longer appear in search results. http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66359

  25. BTW when talk of duplicate content arises it's important for WordPress.com bloggers to read the Types of Blogs allowed and not allowed policy page.

Blogs that violate our advertising policy or fall into one of the following categories are not allowed on WordPress.com:

SEO blogs: Blogs that are written for search engines instead of humans. These blogs are dedicated to trying to fool Google and other search engines into ranking them or the sites they link to highly. WordPress.com is not meant for this type of activity.

Automated blogs: Blogs that are generated by computers, including randomly generated blogs, blogs that re-publish press releases, marketing material, search engine results, link dumps or any other mass-produced content. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

  26. I am having the same problem . . . I went from triple digits to barely pulling double digits. I have no idea why as I haven't changed anything, nor have I drastically changed my post topics.

  27. @cbwentworth
This is just to let you know that we don't drop signature links into comments we make in support forum threads at WordPress.com. Our blogs are already linked to our usernames and in this case the URL of your blog is not relevant to what's being discussed in this thread.

  28. Ooops. Sorry, I misread directions earlier in the thread. :-(

  29. @cbwentworth
Not to worry. :) The conversation and exchange of ideas and information on increasing blog traffic can continue.
