I've successfully changed the homepage of my site so that it's now a static page.
Is it possible to designate another second page as my blogging page? (with all the functionality that I used to have when my homepage was my blog page)

Hi there - yes, you can do that.
First, create a new page and call it Blog - or whatever else you'd like it to be named. Don't add anything else to the page, it's just a placeholder.
Next, go into Settings > Reading - and four lines from the top next to Posts page: - select Blog from the drop-down list.
Scroll down and click the blue "Save Changes" button.
That should be it. Let me know how it goes.

Although you didn't specify saving the second page before designating it as the 'posts' page - no matter I got it right 2nd go!
Yes, any page or post you create always needs to be saved - sorry that wasn't clear but I'm glad you got it sorted!
