Blogger Import Not Working

  1. I am attempting to import posts from a Blogger website to WordPress.com. However, when I click on the Blogger link under Tools -> Import, all I get is a spinning wheel in my browser.

I have tried logging out and back in several times. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is jollymomblogger.wordpress.com.

  2. Hello there,
If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html

If you are, please do these four things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

    2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/

    3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

If you are not successful let us know which browser (and version of it) you’re using and post any error reports you get.

  3. Thank you!

I tried all four steps posted above, but my browser is still spinning when I try to import from Blogger. I'm using Firefox for Mac version 17.0.1 and received the following error message after a few minutes of waiting:

    Whoops!

There was a small systems error. Please try refreshing the page and if the error is still there drop us a note and let us know.

  4. Hi there - I see posts on the site going back to 2008, so it looks like at least some posts were imported. Could you let me know if you're missing any posts or images so we can investigate? Thanks!

  5. The posts appear to be there. I'm just trying to get all the comments imported.

    Thank you!

  6. Hi Mitchell,
I understand that you are concerned about the missing comments and have tagged this thread for Staff again.

  7. Thanks for clarifying, I'll have our developers look at the comments situation if you could provide me with a link to the Blogger site. Thanks!

  8. Here is the link to the Blogger site:

    http://www.jollymom.com/

Thank you very much for your help!

  9. Thanks - I've asked our developers to take a look so we can get your comments sorted out.

  10. Our developers recommend trying the export file that Blogger provides, since it usually works well. You can get the file by logging into Blogger, then going to Settings > Other > Export.

Before importing the file, we'd first need to fully empty your WordPress.com blog, so the importer doesn't try to reimport posts or comments for posts that already exist. Emptying out the site will erase all posts, pages, comments, images, other types of uploaded files, and other data, and it can't be undone.

Let us know if you'd like to try this route and whether we can empty your site.

  11. I thought about trying that, but the export file is very large (407.7MB) and will exceed the upload limit. Is there any way around this?

  12. If you send us the file, we can try to do the import through the command line. I'll send you an email with further instructions.

  13. Hi mitchell214,

Sorry about the delay, we're going to run the import for you today. I just want to confirm with you that you're okay with us emptying your blog first, since you never replied above.

  14. My apologies, I see that we did get your confirmation via a private ticket. We'll proceed with the import.

  15. Hi there - your import should now be completed. Just let us know if you spot anything still missing. Thanks for your patience!
