Blogger won't import

  1. I've imported one blogger blog to my wordpress.com blog (it never completely finished importing, but I manually copied the last post or two just to be done with it).

I am now trying to import a second blogger blog to the same wordpress.com blog. The import process appears to have started fine, but it shows no progress at all, despite running for a while--not even one post imported. (When I imported the first blog, the progress bar showed progress right away.)

I'm wondering if there's something holding up the second import--the incomplete previous import, or something else. I've 'reset' the import process a few times in the hope that it would work better, and have also clicked the 'clear all information' button. It still seems frozen at no progress.

Part of the issue is that the blogger blog I am trying to import NOW is a private blog, and I've had to set it to 'public' while the import is running (a manual attempt using an xml file produced no results at all), and I am not comfortable leaving it public for a long time while the import runs. So I would like to expedite the process as much as possible.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is goodyneal.wordpress.com.

  2. I do see the Blogger blogs listed at https://goodyneal.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=blogger

If the Blogger blog is private, you may need to enable it for public viewing briefly during the import. If you wish to import the blog, please reset the importer below and try again.

You may instead export your blog by going to Settings -> Export Blog in your blogger account and downloading the backup file to then import using the form below.

  3. Yeah, I did both of those things. I made the second Blogger blog (all-farblondzhet.blogspot.com) public while I tried to import it, and the progress bar showed no progress (I've since made the Blogger blog private again, rather than leaving it public while I get this ironed out).

I also tried to export it manually using an xml file and that did nothing.

Which is why I am wondering if the previous import (quantum-meruit.blogspot.com) is jamming up the works, or if there's something else stalling the import.

  4. I've just reset the importer in order for you to give it another try: https://goodyneal.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=blogger

Otherwise please send us the xml file by e-mail? This way I can try to import it for you.

  5. I'm trying the import again (though since I reset it several times myself before submitting this query, I don't have high hopes).

If I send you the xml file, will you be able to import the posts without importing the template/layout? I really like the layout as I have it on WordPress, and would love not to have to recreate it once the Blogger blog imports.

Also, I assume your import would not disturb the existing posts on the WordPress blog (including those previously imported from another blog). Is that right?

(FYI, it's currently showing a status of 'importing' but the progress bar says no posts have been imported. Sigh. I will let you know if that changes.)

  6. If I send you the xml file, will you be able to import the posts without importing the template/layout? I really like the layout as I have it on WordPress, and would love not to have to recreate it once the Blogger blog imports.

The import process will only import your blog content, not the template/layout.

Also, I assume your import would not disturb the existing posts on the WordPress blog (including those previously imported from another blog). Is that right?

    That's correct.

I've just checked the import page and it seems there's an error "Error: Blogger returned a response code of 401 for blog goodyneal.blogspot.com."

Please make sure your blog is set to public so our importer can reach the page. Otherwise send me the import file :)

  7. Sorry--I know it's confusing. I have several Blogger blogs at the moment (and am trying to consolidate a few of them down to make life easier):

    all-farblondzhet.blogspot.com (private)
    goodyneal.blogspot.com (private)
    quantum-meruit.blogspot.com
    leavingandcleaving.blogspot.com

I've already imported quantum-meruit.blogspot.com, and am trying to import all-farblondzet.blogspot.com. I am not importing the other two. So yes, goodyneal.blogspot.com is still private, but I'm not importing it. All-farblondzhet.blogspot.com WAS private, but I've made it public in order to attempt the import. But the import is still not working, so I will send you the xml file for all-farblondzhet.blogspot.com so you can import it.

    Thanks!

  8. Could you please set your blogspot blog to public so I can import it?

  9. I sent in the xml file to the email address you provided for importing. Do you still need me to make the blogspot blog public in order to import?

  10. Do you still need me to make the blogspot blog public in order to import?

    Yes please :)

  11. Ok, all-farblondzhet.blogspot.com is now public and ready for importing. Any idea how long it will take? I'd like to switch it back to private as soon as possible.

    Thanks!

  12. I'm still working on the import, please don't make any changes to your blog. There's no need to keep the blogspot blog public anymore. Feel free to set it back to private again.

I'll contact you once it's done. Thank you!

  13. Thanks for the update!

  14. That's great ... but all my old posts are now gone? There were like 530 posts on the WordPress blog to begin with and I don't see them anymore.

  15. It should be resolved now, could you please check again?

    Thank you!

  16. It looks like they are there now--I'm confirming that all my tags and categories came back, too ... but it looks good! Thanks!

  17. Great! Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
