I would like to add posts to my home page in a blog type fashion(i.e.daily posts). Is there any way i need to set this up for things like time/date stamps?Or,do I just edit the text field?

You have set your home page as static. You can now make a blog page:

Something you didn't ask, but would be useful: use your blogging page for your recipes (one recipe per post), then assign each recipe to a recipe category and an ingredient tag (for example: salmon). When you have dozens of recipes on your site it will be easier for your readers to find a specific recipe.
