Blogum theme comments pushed to bottom

    The comments for posts in the Blogum theme are pushed way down to the bottom of the page, at the end of my sidebar, rather than right under the post. Because the comments section is the width of the whole blog (including the sidebar, which is why it's pushed down so far, I think), I don't know if this is on purpose, but my readers are getting confused as to where the comments went. I don't want to take items out of my sidebar to accommodate this, because I would like to keep my sidebar functionality. As a blog author, I would find it preferable to have the comments be right under my post rather than at the bottom of the page--but I also love this theme :\ It's my favorite since I started blogging in 2008.

    Please let me know if this is something that will be corrected, as otherwise, I will have to find another theme.

    Hi @greengeekgirl,

    Thanks for your suggestion. However, due to the nature of Blogum's layout, comments must appear below the main post area and sidebar. If comments appeared right under the post column, it would cause threaded-comments that are more than a few levels deep to be too narrow. Therefore, we currently do not have any plans to modify the layout.

    @michiecat: "Must?" More than half of the available themes have a narrower main column than Blogum, but in all of them the comments appear where they should. So your explanation isn't convincing, and you should reconsider.

    Re threaded-comments, the solution in relatively narrow themes is to avoid having many levels (as the Support doc on Discussion Settings generally recommends), not to display the comments below the sidebar (which is a flaw plain and simple).

    @michiecat: While I appreciate your prompt and professional response, I am 100% in agreement with @panaghiotisadam. The functionality of threaded comments deeper than would be feasible for the narrow main column is far outweighed by the need to have comments appearing directly below the post, and not pushed below sidebar content.

    Thank you both for your input, it is much appreciated. I can't make any promises that we will modify the layout at this time, but we will definitely consider your suggestions.

    If you decide to in the future, I do hope you update this thread. Right now, I have moved to a different theme, but I don't like it nearly as well as Blogum in style :\ Clean House is nice but it's not as edgy. My readers' comments are too important to me to miss even one due to confusion, though. :)
