Bueno theme: Adding background colour to the sidebar widgets

  1. I want to add a new background to my site, but the sidebar widgets(twitter & text) would become very hard to read. In order to prevent this I want to add a background in white to them. So they look just like the posts do.

    I've tried various bits of CSS which i found via search, to work, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me please?

    The blog I need help with is thedoofa.com.

  2. The following should do the trick. Please let us know how it works for you.

    .widget {
        background: #fff;
        border: 5px solid #eee;
        padding: 20px;
    }
    #sidebar .widget h3 {
        line-height: 0;
        padding-bottom: 1.2em;
    }
  3. You are a STAR!

    Thankyou so so much :)

    I am trying to change the framing around the photos i post in bueno. It looks like a grey "matte board" and I don't know how to remove it.

    Thanks,

    This is the CSS Forum. Have you purchased an a custom design upgrade so you can undertake CSS editing?

    No, I have not. Looks intimidating. Is this something that a novice can do?

  7. I don't recommend that anyone who does not have CSS editing skills and who is not prepared to pay annually to have the custom design upgrade purchases it.

    It depends quite a bit on factors like what you want to change, how much you want to change, how much you want to change, and the theme you pick.

    To remove borders from images inside posts in the Bueno theme, try adding the to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS editor and click the preview button:

    .entry img {
        border: none;
    }

  10. Thank you, michaelfields.
    It helped a lot!

  11. @lianauehara, do you have the Custom Design Upgrade? I don't see any evidence that you do. You need to the custom design upgrade to be able to edit the CSS and add the background to the widgets. I've modified the staff code above by @michaelfields and the following, will do what you want. You can paste it into the CSS edit window at appearance > custom design > CSS and then use the preview button to see what it would look like.

    #sidebar .widget {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF;
    border: 5px solid #EEEEEE;
    padding: 20px;
    }
  12. The custom design upgrade button does not show under appearance... I need to add a custom background to my blog lunchbreakpoetry.com - I bought the upgrade for the meghanadler.wordpress.com and everything works there - but I can't make it work at lunchbreakpoetry.com. Can you help?

  13. That site is self-hosted and you need to head over to the WordPress.org forums as that is where the software you are using is supported.

    These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM hosting service and things here work differently.

    If you are not familiar with the differences, see this support document.
