Bueno

  1. @Panos
    Thanks for the rescue. :)

  2. I LIKE THE BUENO HEADLINE FONT!! :-)

    SANDRA wrote: “So I have a black font in post and mostly gray font on sidebar. People often have a different color in the sidebar, so I think this is fine. I would prefer black all around and I too could live without the chunky blog title and page titles. ”

    LornaKismet replies: At first I was startled by the size and chunkiness of the Bueno header font but then I realized that it is the only theme that offers a big, bold, headline type font that really attracts/grabs the eyeball. For my blog, it works. I would not be using it for, say, “My Grandmother's Favorite Recipes,” or “Lyric Portuguese Poetry,” but it visually matches what I do.

    I hope that the Bueno people do not change the font!!!!!

  3. I LOVE THE BUENO THEME!

    PANAGHOSIAN wrote: “(Frankly, I'm surprised you're thinking of switching from ChaoticSoul to Bueno; to me, no comparison.) ”

    Lorna replies to Panos: I looked at Chaotic Soul and decided that it was too chaotic for me so I passed it over. One of the great results of these forums is that one gets a chance to read an opinion that jumps out at you and startles you... and makes you think. I still would not use Chaotic Soul for my type of blog, and so far, the features in Bueno really please me. It is easy to look at and draws me in.

    I love reading people's comments here. One I do agree with is: I also would like the text font to be a dark charcoal if not black. Yup.

  4. Re: Chaotic Soul:
    Ok. I just now went back to see it, and realize why I did not choose it: Because it has a black background, and I find it hard to read light text on black/dark background.

    There has been no statement made by the Theme Team to the effect that they intend to change the font on Bueno. Here's a link to all the threads on Bueno http://tinyurl.com/2ct3hbq

    Is there something that you need help with?

  6. Still loving Bueno on my knitting blog, but is there some way to coax the icon images back down to the text line? At the moment, they're hovering far above it. You can see this most clearly here: http://yarnaholic.wordpress.com/the-copyright-faq-for-knitters/2/ and in the table here http://yarnaholic.wordpress.com/free-knitting-patterns/

    FWIW-I've removed the image borders by setting them to zero in the advanced image settings and image alignment is set to "none".

  7. In the Q&A page, change alignnone to alignleft, and change style to this:
    style="border:none;margin-top:4px;"
    In the table page, remove the baseline command, and change the opening td tags to this:
    <td style="vertical-align:middle;">
    Also, for the red images change style to this:
    style="border:none;margin-top:3px;"
    for the green/grey ones to this:
    style="border:none;margin-top:-5px;"

  8. I started using bueno last week. Really loved the chunky header text. But now the text has changed to large stretched out helvetica and the drop down menus are below the header instead of next to it. I'm using the same computer, same browser, so not sure why there is a change in appearance.

    Thanks!

  9. Thank you Panos. Off to try grounding those icons!

  10. @Panos-Not having much luck, unfortunately. May need to used negative numbers to pull those icons back down to the textline.

    @bbblinks-I see you've changed themes, but before you go much further, I suggest that you run your blog by Staff (if you haven't already done so) to make sure it's within the ToS, as we cannot run advertising on our blogs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

  11. @yarnaholic: ? My suggestions do exactly that (unless I'm misunderstanding what you're looking for).

  12. I'd like to ask timethief and panaghiotisadam to pay a quick visit to my blog today.

    Thanks again guy's!

  13. Why?

  14. @lookitsbray: Thank you!

  15. @lookitsbray
    Thanks from me too. :)

  16. Probably a dumb question but is it possible to remove the Date bubble from the upper left hand corner of each post all together?

  17. I did a search and found your answer for you. If you're experienced with CSS, that's something that can be done with the Custom CSS upgrade. If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

    Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

    If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/

  18. You can preview CSS changes without paying for the upgrade but changes you make will appear only to you and won't be permanent. The code you'd need to include is:

    .date {display:none;}

  19. Hi guys! I have a silly question i think, but i justa cant find the way of putting pictures o the side bar( for example, I want to put a picture and some text also, I found this blog that is using the Bueno Theme and wanted to put pictures just like this http://jcrylequotes.com/)

    This is my blog! http://lamujermas.com/

    thaaaank you very much in advance!!
    =)

  20. The header image size for Bueno exactly 930 × 198 pixels will be used as-is. Prepare an image of that size first and then this is where you upload it > Dashboard > Appearance > Themes > Header

  21. thank you very muuch timethief, but I wasrefering to the images on the sidebar, may be my english wasnt very clear, im sorry.
    Can you help me with this please?

  22. The clear width in the sidebar is 280px. Keep your images at or below that and you will be fine.

  23. I believe this is the best theme I've ever used. It's clean and is customizable for most of my needs.

  24. First time posting here after starting to use wordpress.com last week to set up a little portfolio site for my baked goodies. I chose Bueno because I love the adorable dots and font and reading through this forum has been helpful to learn more about how it all works. So, thanks!

    I will have my chef portrait and higher quality cake pictures soon but have been playing with cell phone pictures so far. What I'm hoping to be able to do is tag photos (for example, wedding, or blue) and be able to search and view any cake with that tag. Is there a widget or feature that can do this? And, please let me know if I should be asking this elsewhere!

    Also, I believe from searching the forums that I cannot hide the 'comments closed' text at the bottom of static pages. Is this still true for the Bueno theme or are there potential work-arounds?

    Jencinclair.com (any additional advice for a newby is super -welcome!)

    thanks!

    thanks!

  25. If you add each cake as a seperate post rather than on a page you can use categories and tags. I'd suggest categories being cakes/cupcakes/cookies etc and then tag each one with the event/colour/other information. You can include both the categories and tag widgets in the side/bottom-bar so that people can navigate similar posts in your blog. I think that you can even customise the navigation links to redirect to categories pages.

    As it stands I think the only way to remove the "comments closed" box is with the paid CSS upgrade.

  26. lh,

    Thank you! This totally makes sense! I'll play around with this to see if I can get it to look how I envision it.

  27. Hey!

    I'm having some difficulties with this theme as well.For some reason I can't get the comments for the blog posts to work. I just started making the website and have lots of work to do, but the address is : http://www.hdolsen.com

    Forsome reason posts can be posted on the blog site, but the comments doesn't show up. But then if I say I want the ability to post comments on my portfolio site it appears to be possible to at least post a comment (not look at them all here either).

    I tried using a plugin called "IntenseDebate", but it would only show up on my portfoliosite when I allowed comments there..

    I saw some of you guys with the same theme doesn't have that problem.
    I'd really appreaciate all tips and help I can get!

    ~Hailey

  28. Oh, and also, you want to read the comments you're redirected to my homepage for some reason...Maybe that's my problem there? I really can't figure this out :/

  29. That would be because you are using a different version of Bueno than we are.
    You may not be aware of it, but wp.COM and wp.ORG are two separate entities. This is the forum for wp.COM.
    Our software is different, the themes we can use are specially adapted to work on a multi-user platform.

    Scroll down to the bottom of your site and these words:
    "POWERED BY WORDPRESS"
    will link you to the forum where someone can help you.
    http://wordpress.org/support/

    If you want details about the differences:

  30. thanks a lot for explaining that to me. It made sense ;) sorry for bothering this forum
