Can 'Continue reading →' be used for categories/archives?

  1. Is it possible to change the 'Category' and 'Archives' widgets, so that when a category or month is selected; the posts aren't shown in their entirety but are abridged with a 'Continue reading → at the end (as you'd get when using the 'search' function).
Would this involve placing code into the Custom CSS area? Ands if so, what code would I need to paste? Many thanks!

The blog I need help with is oneequalstwo.wordpress.com.

  2. Some themes truncate posts on teh category page, some only show titles, and some show full posts.

    CSS editing doesn't affect that.

  3. OK. Thanks. Is it possible to use category and/or archive widgets from another theme; or are they available as a plug-in?

  4. No, themes are all or nothing.

  5. Ok. Thanks for your time.

  6. 1) More precisely, CSS editing can truncate the posts on category pages, but it cannot add read-more links.

    2) How posts show up on category pages is determined by the underlying files of the theme - it's not a function of the Categories widget: the widget merely provides links to each category page.

    3) If you add the read-more tag to your posts, it will work on category pages. (But it will work on the main page as well, and I guess that's not what you're looking for).

    4) Themes that display post beginnings on category pages listed here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/
(Newest themes not listed - see the ed note in my sidebar).

  7. Thank you. Much appreciated. That makes sense. Guess I'll live with it!
