Can I add my own widget?

  1. I have an etsy shop and have a widget that I can put onto my blog. It has given me the code but I don't actually know how to apply it to my blog and have it up there permanently. I'm pretty new to all this!

The blog I need help with is zekiahheath.wordpress.com.

  2. If you already have the HTML code, the rest is pretty simple. Go to Etsy and right-click copy the code they've given you. Next, go to your WordPress.com dashboard and scroll down to the "Appearance: Widgets" link in the left sidebar. Find the Text Widget and drag it over to the "Your Sidebar" column. Open up the new text widget and, in the main block, right-click paste the code into the widget. Now just type a title if you wish (e.g., My Etsy Shop). Hit the "Save" button and you're all set!

  3. The normal etsy widget code contains javascript, and will be stripped out by wordpress for security reasons, IF your blog is hosted here at wordpress.COM. Is this the blog you are talking about http://zekiahheath.wordpress.com/ ?

Typically what my friends have done with their etsy shops is to link to them from a text widget via an image link (not using the etsy widget code - which doesn't work here).

  4. Yesterday I tried to apply an etsy widget and a DaWanda widget by plain try an error. So I can definitely confirm what thesacredpath just pointed out. Copy-Pasting the HTML code into a text widget wonn't work. All you get is the HTML code on the sidebar of your blog.

So I ended up with the same problem like you did, zekiahheath and now I'm very very interested in linking to my etsy shop via an image link. BUT HOW? Could you explain the steps, please thesacredpath?

  5. zafraniversum,

    <a href="URL_OF_YOUR_ETSY_SITE"><img src="URL_OF_ETSY_IMAGE" alt="" /></a>
or to open in a new window
    <a href="URL_OF_YOUR_ETSY_SITE" target="_blank"><img src="URL_OF_ETSY_IMAGE" alt="" /></a>

You can either link to a plain etsy logo image or download the image to your computer, then upload it to your wp.com blog and insert it into your sidebar with the code above.
