Can I exclude certain followers?

  1. Can I exclude certain followers?

I have a follower which is a porn actress. Her blog is very explicit.

Is it possible to exclude her from following my blog?

If not: I display all my followers in the widget "My community". Is it possible to exclude only that follower and to show all others?

The blog I need help with is peterpreus.wordpress.com.

  2. Short version:
You can't block or delete followers. Either make the blog private or accept that reality because there is no means of blocking anyone on the internet from access any public blog and submitting comments if and when comments are open.

    Long version:
We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Anyone and everyone can access public blogs and that's indeed what the public designation means. However, please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers > http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/

Note that you have complete control over everything that's posted to your blog via comment moderation
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

For trolls, you can “blacklist” them at Settings > Discussion toward the bottom of that page. Enter their email address, their username, and if they included it, their website URL. That will automatically send them to moderation so that their comments do not appear on the blog. Do note though that if they are determined, they can use a different email address or username to get around that.

Also, do not put their IP address in the blacklist. IP addresses are no longer unique, and you might end up blocking legitimate visitors. In fact for over a decade only about 30% of us have IPs that trace back to any individual computer. Also, all they would have to do is go to a wi-fi hot spot, or connect via a different ISP and they could get around that.

  4. Hi there!

I'm afraid that removing a follower might only cause her to follow your blog again. Is the user in question causing any trouble on your blog? Let me know so I can look into it. Alternately, you may want to set your blog as private and give only certain users special access.

I display all my followers in the widget "My community". Is it possible to exclude only that follower and to show all others?

As long as the user is actively following your blog, it will not be possible to prevent her from showing up in the widget.

Let me know if you have other questions or concerns. Thanks!

  5. @druesome
I don't want and thee OP does not want the gravatars of these sex and porno bloggers appearing on our blogs - period!

It's absolutely ridiculous that the developers have not provided a means for us to exclude the display of these from our followers display in the widgets like My Community widgets. Please get on this now and boot this up to the developers and request they address this situation ASAP.

  6. P.S. In the case of the gravatar of the person being referred to by peterpreus the rating is general. However, the blog is without a question of doubt a hard core porno blog and that's what the issue is.

  7. Hi peter preuis .
I had the same issue today also...just to know does your follower name is micaela schaefer ?

  8. That's the one.

  9. So if it is the same one, she definitivly do not want to follow our blog, but she just want to show her blog via us , And when i looked on the term of use , we can read in responsability of contributant that :
    the Content is not pornographic, does not contain threats or incite violence, and does not violate the privacy or publicity rights of any third party;
So she uses our blog to show porn content... What is against the rule

  10. She does not have a WordPress.COM hosted blog like we do. She has a WordPress.ORG site hosted by GoDaddy.com and our Terms of Service here at WordPress.COM does not apply to her site.

  11. Just had a chance to read over this thread – I've got the same problem, same user, and though I don't have a "My Community" widget, I still don't think it's right that someone can follow me and I can't do anything about it. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

  12. Hi everyone, thanks for sending in your complaints. After careful investigation, I've taken care of the issue and had taken down the offending link from the user's profile. Should you run into anything similar in the future, please don't hesitate to report them immediately by submitting a new support ticket, or, by accessing the user's Gravatar profile and click on the "Report Abuse" link.

If you had other questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks!

  13. @druesome
Thank you so much for acting on this.

  14. No problem! :)

  15. Thanks for removing the unwanted follower!

Nevertheless I would find it useful if I could exclude single followers from my widget "My Community".

  16. I have the same follower and also want her removed from my list!! The link to her website still works from my followers list :(

druesome, can you help me with this?

  17. Hey Peter!

That's something we might be looking at as an enhancement to the widget.

    @jamiehancock

The user has been banned and the offending link has been removed from her profile. Shouldn't be a problem now.

    Thanks!
