No. I had to pay for mine and if you want to get one here and the mapping to go with it you will have to pay too. At $15 per year that means you will have to spend 4 cents per day. http://faq.wordpress.com/category/domain-mapping/

Domain names are so cheap. I got (http://waxheaven.com) for $9 for an entire year. It's even cheaper if you register for more than a year.

Agreed. If you buy a domain plus a full year's domain mapping from wordpress.com you only pay $5 for the domain and $10 for the mapping. Hence the total expense for a year ($15) amounts to a paltry 4 cents per day.

Not a very persuasive argument. Is there any REASON for WordPress to give you something for free it charges everyone else for? Are you special?

they seem to have the cheapest domains. -
I think "fr4ee" was the key word here and not "cheap". This is what a Google search turns up free domain
