Can I have posts appear on just home page?

  1. I love the clean, clear style of Twenty Eleven but I want the home page to be the only place the posts appear. I want the other pages to serve as info pages without posts. If I purchase the Custom Upgrade can I change the Showcase template so that posts don't appear?

For my personal blog I have this setup with a different theme and it is great:

The blog I need help with is oregonphotographyschool.wordpress.com.

  2. There is only one running page for posts in a blog. We cannot post to more than that one page. By default it's the front page of the blog and it remain so unless we set a static front page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

If I purchase the Custom Upgrade can I change the Showcase template so that posts don't appear?

    Please read this > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/workings-of-duster/

CSS editing can be used to change appearance only. It cannot be used to change functionality of any theme. This is a multi-user blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we bloggers cannot edit templates and themes. Only Staff can edit the underlying php the gives rise to the HTML and every edit they make affects all blogs wearing the same theme.

  3. Thanks for the prompt reply. It seems like what you're describing is exactly what I want; Recent Posts appearing on just the home page but not on the other pages, which remain static. What I see, however, when I go to the secondary pages, are Recent Posts appearing below the info I've laid out for those static pages.

Here's a link to one of those secondary pages:

  4. I'm really baffled by this; everything I'm reading in the forums indicates that Recent Posts can only show up on one page. That's usually my home page unless I've selected a Static Page as a substitute home page. I'm getting Recent Posts showing up on every page I create. What am I doing wrong?

  5. I'm sorry I didn't get back to this thread earlier. Did you choose the Showcase template in the Page Attributes module for every static page you created?

  6. I did, but I thought I had tried the other templates also, with the same results. I'll try changing templates on a static page now.

  7. It looks like if I change the template to Default on a Static Page the Recent Comments go away.

  8. What happens if you choose the Sidebar Template?

  9. With Sidebar selected I have the same result; no Recent Comments, but like the Default setting I do have the "Leave a Reply" box.

  10. But now my home page shows now posts and the copy says, "This is somewhat embarrassing, isn't it?"

  11. Sorry, I meant to say that it shows no posts.

  12. Got it. I had to go back in and make sure I selected "Your Latest Posts" on my Reading Settings.

Whew. Thanks for the help sorting this out. I think I'm good to go now.

  13. Have you tried going here > Appearance > Widgets and choosing the widgets you do want to display? http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/09/28/the-no-widgets-paradox/
On Twenty Eleven sidebar/bottombar can be deactivated or activated on any static page (Page editor > Attributes module > Template).

  14. I am familiar with using the Widgets, but where would I find Page Editor?

  15. @vernont
I'm sorry I had to come and go from this thread. I'm multitasking from work. It's a good thing I'm the boss on most days, but on some days like this one, I have to offline and wade into the trenches to sort things and then return here.

  16. Please, no apology necessary. I appreciate the help you've given me so far. And sometimes a few minutes away gives me time to hunt around and figure it out for myself (or get into trouble).

  17. @vernont
I'm almost afraid to ask where you are at now with the blog. Do you have any outstanding issues?

  18. Nope. Looks like it's all figured out. But you mentioned Page Editor > Attributes > Template. Where do I find that?

  19. I believe that's a reference to editing a post and looking into the Page Attributes box and locating the Page templates from here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/workings-of-duster/

  20. Okay, I understand. Thanks for all your help, and have a great weekend.

  21. You're welcome and I hope you have a great weekend too.

  22. Cheers!
