Can I pay for a plug-in ugrade with wordpress.com I can't change domain name

    I maintain a website for my college newspaper. We are happy with the wordpress layout and format.
    But the time has come for us to expand.
    I need to know if it's possible for us to upgrade to include plugin applications. More specifically, we intend to install a lightbox plugin that would let us implement a small splash screen for upcoming school announcements.
    But we need to keep the same domain name. We have our feeds linked all over the place. Like to an iPhone app for example.
    So, can we upgrade to include plugins, but keep the wordpress.com domain name the same?
    If so, how do I do this and what would it cost?

    The blog I need help with is iushorizon.wordpress.com.

    No. There is no such upgrade. There is no FTP access to free hosted wordpress.com blogs and no individual plugins can be uploaded.

    Before Upgrading

    The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes and plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and must still abide by our Terms of Service accordingly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

    Your best bet is to hire a web host and get free software from wordpress.org. > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Right.
    Well, here is my problem.
    We are considering purchasing a domain name and upgrading to wordpress.org in order to use plugins. More specifically a thinkbox/lightbox auto plugin.

    But, how can we take all of our previous posts with us?

    Wait, you're not quite getting this.

    You do not "upgrade" to WP.org. You start over there, with hosting that you purchase somewhere. You don't need to upgrade your blog here with anything, just register a domain name and map it to the new blog.

    To keep all your posts, just use the Export option.
