Can i upload my own widgets to my blog on wordpress.com

  1. Can i upload my own widgets to my blog on wordpress.com

  2. No.

  3. Yes, but only with HTML codes on the text widget.

  4. HTML cn be pasted into text widgets, but new widgets can not be uploaded (to use the OP's term) as is possible with self-hosted blogs.

  5. I just tried to upload the widget code for last.fm which would/ should show my iTunes playlist into the mentioned Text widget. But all I got was the code posted to the site?
According to Last.fm their widget is compatible with wordpress............

  6. Last fm's widget is not compatible with wordpress.COM. It is flash and/or javascript which is not allowed here due to security concerns. It is compatible with self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

See the stick post at the top of the main forum page for the differences between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG.

  7. Well someone should let Last FM know that they are misleading people than!
Thanx for the input "thesacredpath"............ Is there anything that will work with wordpress.com and my itunes to display what I'm listening to real time?

    t

  8. Agreed, but Last.fm aren't the only ones, it's that way most places.

Anything where the goal is dynamic updating requires javascript or some other scripting language, and thus can be a security issue.

You might take a look at the two referenced blog posts in this thread (toward the end) and give those a try. I tried at one time and it was a little clunky.

  9. Yes, I was reading those also. I might try them?
It's not that important in the grand scheme I guess....... thanx!

  10. I'm sorry, I forgot to include the link to the other thread: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-have-a-playlist-on-my-blog?replies=7#post-206765

  11. Thanks Ella, I forgot to include the link. A Homer moment to be sure.

  12. We all have them. Roads figured it out nicely, I think.

  13. Ah see this one works fine:
    http://thepriceoflove.net/2008/05/11/how-to-add-music-playlists-in-wordpresscom-using-lastfm-and-playlistcom/

Now my next problem is when I add this widget to my Sidebar. Everything else I had there (pages) go away?
How do I make the widget play nice with anything else I have in my sidebar?
    I live here btw:

  14. If you have not yet actually added a widget to the sidebar, then what you are seeing is just a sample display created by the theme. That sample display will disappear when you add a widget. Just drag and drop the other widgets that you want nto the sidebar and arrange them as you wish.

  15. Nope when I add the widget to the sidebar and then go check my page. I see the widget displayed correctly as it should but all my other info has disappeared?
I'll reload the widget now so you can see what I'm blathering about.
    thanx

  16. I have the widget running now. As you can see everything I had previous in my sidebar is now gone?
If I take that widget out of the sidebar all the other info will return however?

  17. That was a sample display of widgets that disappear once you actually manually add a widget to the sidebar. It is there so you can see what the theme will look like with widgets.

Go to appearance > widgets and drag and drop the other widgets that you want in the sidebar into the sidebar.

  18. AHA!!
Finally I gotcha! Man, I'm sorry for being a tool on this one.
DUH, sometimes the light bulb takes awhile to turn on.

    Thank you for your patience!

  19. You're welcome and that happens to all of us so it is not a problem.

How do I add my Blog Talk Radio program widget to my blog's sidebar?

  21. If it require javascript or flash, then it will not work here. I would expect it requires flash. If you want, you can paste the code for the widget here in the forums between backticks (the key to the left of the #1 with the ~ on it) and we can take a look at it.

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

    Jon

  23. The first is flash which is not allowed due to security concerns:

The second, I don't think will work in that form, but I think this would get you where you want to be:

    Listen to Jon Hansen<br /><a href="http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Jon-Hansen"><img class="alignnone" title="hansen" src="http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Jon-Hansen/LivePlayerButton.gif" alt="" width="160" height="80" /></a><br />on Blog Talk Radio

Paste that into a text widget and see if it doesn't get you what you want.

Thank you, I will give it a try and let you know.

If in some way I can be of any service, or if you have a blog let me know I would be more than happy to share it with my network.

    Hi - quick questions:
I would like to post two widgets to my blog. One is from linkreferrel.com and the other is to my amazon store. I have the widget html but can't figure out how to put them on. There doesn't seem to be an 'add widget' area. Any thoughts.

Also, someone mentioned self-hosted blogs. I use the computer at work to update my blog - do I have to download the software to my computer or is it contained with webpress and I can just use it somehow. (I'm not very IT knowledgeable).

Thanks for your help. Would you email me your answer if you have a moment?

  28. Don't post your email in a forum. None of the volunteers will email you, but hundreds of spammers will. Volunteers answer questions in the forum.

The site linked to your name is not a WordPress.com blog and we won't be able to help you with that. If you have a blog, please give us the URL starting with http. We can't answer questions without a look at the blog.

This explains the difference between the two types of WordPress.
