Can I use images for my "category" widget?

  1. Okay. Thanks to other topics I figured out how to put an image in my right sidebar in the MistyLook theme. Is there any way to make my sub-categories appear as images?

eg. I have a category of "writing". Thought I'd put an image of a pen that would link to all such categorized posts. How can I do that?

    Thanks in advance!

The blog I need help with is cherrytart.wordpress.com.

  2. The Categories Widget included in WordPress.com cannot be modified to work with images (although this is a pretty cool idea). You would need to manually create some HTML and throw it in a text widget to achieve this effect.

Or - you could use the Blogroll feature - http://support.wordpress.com/blogroll/ - and have one link category called "Categories". Add each category archive URL as a link in that category, and set the "Image Address" field for each link to whatever image you wish to use.

Let me know if you need some further clarification on that.

  3. No. What you would have to do is code your own categories widget using HTML and a text widget. It would not automatically update, so anytime you added a category, you would have to code a new link to it in the text widget.

  4. Thank you. I'll play around with it and see what I can do.
