Can I use WordPress for a website not blog?

  1. I don't want a blog but want a multipage website with static pages and possibly a shopping cart (if I can figure that out).

Is there a benefit to use wordpress for this, I read that blogs optimize better, so could I possibly use blog format but not where people can comment.

Or should I use the pages option. Here is my current site http://www.abbott-trophies.com but want to redesign it.

Also can I do everything I need on wordpress.com as opposed to wordpress.org. I downloaded from .org but got confused and overwhelmed with the installation so I want easy.

  2. You cannot add a shopping cart option to a WordPress.COM blog. You can to a WordPress.ORG blog, and it's quite common to use an .ORG as an independent website.

  3. You actualy CAN add a shopping cart to WordPress blog. Look up http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-e-commerce/

It's a little tricky to setup but works!

  4. @cyborgnyc, this is wordpress.COM. You cannot add a shopping cart here.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently and there are restrictions on what we can and cannot do.

If you do not know the difference, see this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .
