   I attempted everything suggested in the support forum to move my wife's blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org.

   The transfer times out and will not finish. I've looked at the FTP to see that some of the content is being moved but little bits at a time. I've tried and tried and tried again and now it doesn't seem to be moving anything.

   I paid for the Guided Transfer only to find out that its a total transfer of the old site, rather than a transfer of content and media to my new site/design. Not helpful. If I liked my old site I wouldn't be moving.

   The Happiness Engineers gave me a few suggestions on making the transfer work. I broke the Export down to just "Posts" a few months at a time. That sorta worked. I was able to get all of 2012 "transfered and live on my wife's site" however the media did not truly download. It's just pulling the media from my wordpress.com site.

   I've posted a thread in the support forum and received no response.

   Can someone please help me come up with a workable solution?

   I haven't done this for a couple of years, When I did I had an XML export file and I imported it. When I did that I received a prompt asking if I wanted to include "attachments". I clicked to agree to that yes and I got all the images.

   It can take the import up to 24 hours to complete, especially if media files are involved, but if you start poking around and changing things in that time period, it might stop working.

   We can only guarantee the quality of the export file here, which appears to be just fine.

   If you're still having trouble with the import, I recommend asking at http://wordpress.org/support/
