Cannot change the width of sidebar in pachyderm theme

    I've been searching the forums for quite a while now and I have yet to figure out how to change the width of my sidebar in the Pachyderm theme. I can adjust my content just fine using custom CSS, but of I try changing my sidebar using:
    #sidebar{
    width:300px;
    }

    It does absolutely nothing. I've tried a few different things but NOTHING has made that sidebar budge! Suggestions?

    The blog I need help with is thesuitcasedesignstest.wordpress.com.

  2. First, the selector for the sidebar on Pachyderm isn't "#sidebar". When it comes to selectors, you cannot guess or use what seems reasonable to you: you have to examine the CSS of the theme using a developer extension (such as Firebug in Firefox or Web Inspector in Safari).
    Second, if you only increase the sidebar width, the sidebar will drop below the main content because it will no longer fit next to it: to accommodate a widened sidebar you need to decrease the width of the main column or increase the total width of the theme. Which one of the two would you prefer?

    Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry I just assumed it was #sidebar from the forums I had found. My mistake. I want to adjust the overall width of the theme, I know how to fix it once the side bar drops below no problem. I just haven't been able to actually adjust the sidebar at all. So if I adjust the overall content-sidebar width there's a huge gap between the content and the sidebar, unless I make the content huge and keep the sidebar small. Which I don't want.

    Thank you for your help!

    I'll give web inspector a try.

  5. You're welcome.

    Each theme has its own selectors, so never assume!

    "I'll give web inspector a try." Which means you're using Safari. Good! (It's no coincidence that I mentioned only Safari and Firefox in my previous reply.)

    To widen the theme and the sidebar, add this and increase both values by the same amount:

    .active-sidebar-primary-sidebar #page, .page-template-nosidebar-page-php #page {
        width: 790px;
    }
    .widget-area {
        width: 170px;
    }

    You deserve a gold metal.

    Thank you!!!

    I'm seriously checking out Web Inspector now. No one has ever introduced me to it before!
