Cannot delete blog, "domain registration upgrade", domain already transferred.

Trying to delete my Will Run for Pasta blog... willrunforpasta.com (willrunforpastadotcom.wordpress.com)

I originally purchased the domain name and hosting through wordpress.com back in July but I transferred the domain to GoDaddy as soon as the 60-day waiting period was over and I have been self-hosted and using wordpress.org ever since. The DNS and all of that has all been changed, everything seems to be working fine and going through wordpress.org and GoDaddy.

I'm finally getting around to deleteing my wordpress.com blogs but I keep getting the "You cannot delete a blog if the blog has a domain registration upgrade." message which makes it sound like my domain is still registered through WordPress but it isn't. I figured that when I transferred to GoDaddy any domain related items on WordPress would have been automatically cancelled, but maybe not?

I have Googled and searched the forum, the Dashboard, the Store, and Tools but have not been able to figure it out.

    Any help would be appreciated!

The blog I need help with is willrunforpasta.com.

Obviously that's an automated response, but is tells me that the records on your end show that my domain isn't with you anymore so I'm not sure why I'm getting the warning message when I try to delete the wordpress.COM blog that used to be associated with it.

Hopefully a real person will still read my question and have some advice. :)

  4. Hi there :)

Ok, so here's what I discovered - you did indeed have your mapping still on your blog.

I removed the custom domain as the primary domain on your blog. You'll want to go into your My Upgrades page and remove your value bundle:
    https://willrunforpastadotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

And that will effectively remove the mapping. Just to make sure nothing gets its wires crossed, I suggest you delete the upgrade BEFORE you delete the blog. :)

Let me know if you need any help getting this stuff taken care of!

Thanks so much! So mapping = value bundle? I'm so confused, LOL!

I did just try to cancel the value bundle and when I clicked the confirmation in the email that was sent it opened up a new internet tab with this message: "An error occurred while refunding your upgrade. Please contact support"

    Any ideas on that?

  6. Hi there,

    I'm sorry :) I didn't explain very well, did I?

Ok, so the value bundle includes the mapping. Because it's a bundle, you would need to cancel the entire product (but since you don't want the blog any more anyway, that's not a big deal). If there was a scenario where you wanted to remove ONE item in a bundle, but keep the bundle, we can do that, too, but a staff member would have to do it for you.

In cases like this, we like users to go through the steps themselves, so both sides are absolutely confident this is what they want (a cancellation).

I have gone ahead and cancelled the bundle for you and removed the mapping. I double checked and the mapping record has been deleted as well! So you should be free to delete your blog as you see fit.

A word about blog deletions though; they are irreversible. If you think you MIGHT ever EVER want that URL again, don't delete it. We usually recommend that users set the blog to private (Settings > Reading > Site Visibility), which means that no one but the owner can see it anyway.

But in any regard, you should be all set!

    Cheers!

Well, just went in to delete it and I'm getting the same message about how you can't delete a blog when there is a domain registration upgrade . I went to My Upgrades and it's still showing a WordPress Value Bundle but the heading above it is "I kiss better than I cook! (kpkrecipes.wordpress.com)" which is a totally different blog I have already deleted. I tried cancelling the value bundle and got the email, clicked Confirm, and got the same error message to contact Support.

I appreciate you stressing the option to make it private rather than delete it, however, part of the reason I want to delete my WP.com stuff is that since I'm now on WP.org I'm having trouble commenting on other WP blogs. It always makes me login but I have to login with my WP.com credentials which I don't want since I'm not blogging there anymore.

    ???

Maybe you can explain that issue to me and I can stop trying to delete my WP.com, LOL!

  9. Hmm, that is strange!

I went in to look at your transactions, and saw the value bundle still subscribed to the old, deleted blog (so I removed it), and I saw your registration for your GoDaddy domain still attached to your willrunforpastadotcom blog. Since you're not registered through WordPress anymore, I deleted that, too. That should be the last thing standing in your way!

Try deleting (or setting to private, whichever you're more comfortable with now you know all the facts), and let me know how it goes!
