Cannot edit category description

  1. I can't edit the description for my category "Buried Treasure". I keep getting the message “Category not updated”.

The category is http://abjectsub.com/category/buried-treasure-2/. I’d like to get rid of the -2 in the slug as well, if it’s being caused by the same problem.

I remember I also had a lot of trouble creating this category, too. If I’m not wrong, I managed it by creating a different category and then renaming it.

The category has the same name as a pre-existing tag, but that wasn't a problem with "How to do it".

Can I solve the problem by deleting both and starting again with the category first? That's how I did "How to do it". Or would it just make things worse?

  2. If you permanently delete the first one from your Trash then the "2" will not appear in the URL. http://en.support.wordpress.com/trash/#permanently-deleting-a-post-or-page

  3. Timethief, you are wonderful as always, but I don't see any trash on my Categories page. Only the Posts, Pages and Comments. The link you supplied does not mention deleted categories either.

  4. Hmmm ... you are right. That only applies to posts, pages and media. I don't know how a dynamic categories page gets a "2" at the end of the URL. I'll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  5. Thanks! Um, should I open a separate thread to ask how you got your username to link to your blog?

  6. No. :) Here's the answer to that question. 6

  7. Thank you!!!

  8. Hi Xiao!

After looking into your account, I found that you have a tag called Buried Treasure so that why when you created the Buried Treasure category there was a "-2" add to the end of it.

If you want to remove that "-2" from the category page, then please:

    1. Delete the Buried Treasure tag from your Posts > Tags page.
    2. Delete the categories from your Posts > Category Page.
    3. Then re-create the Buried Treasure category, and re-assign your posts to that category.

I see that you have the Category Page for Buried Treasure as well. Please note that would have be to reassigned as well.

    Thank you!

  9. I was able to create a "How to do it" category and tag both with the same slug. So there must be something else happening.

In any case I have decided to work around the problem, so you can call this topic resolved. But I think there is a bug.

  10. Ok thanks. I'll look into the issue and report back if I find anything.

    Cheers!
