Cannot find "Membership" under Settings->General

  1. Purpose: I am trying to allow blog visitors to sign-up/register as blog users (say, Contributors by default).

Approach: According to the link below, I should be able to do it easily with Settings->General->Memberships
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_Screen

Problem: Memberships doesn't show up on my Settings->General page, which currently looks like this:

    Site Title
    Tagline
    E-mail Address
    Timezone
    Date Format
    Time Format
    Language

  2. http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_Screen

That is for a WordPress.ORG install - the blog linked to your name is a WordPress.COM blog - software works differently - You can't use those instructions here.

  3. Thank you, that's helpful. Do you know how I can allow visitors to register themselves as users of my wordpress.COM blog?

  4. can allow visitors to register themselves as users of my wordpress.COM blog?

You can't on WordPress.COM - you must invite each person you want to contribute to your blog and they must accept the invitation.

  5. Oh. Any work arounds / plugins at all?

  6. No. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we can't install plugins into them. WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

The instructions for inviting others to contribute to your free hosted WordPress.com blog are found here > Inviting Contributors, Followers, and Viewers

  7. Ok. Thank you both for your help. I am going to mark this topic as resolved.

  8. You're welcome from me and best wishes with your blog.

  9. Thank you.
