Cannot put spaces between paragraphs
-
For some reason I can not use the enter key to put a single line space between my paragraphs. If I want to space my paragraphs I have to use the “code” tab and put “<p>” between each of my paragraphs to produce a single line space. Also, if I go back to edit the post, the paragraph tags are gone and I have to re-enter them. What’s the deal?
I just updated to Mac OS X Leopard and Safari 3.0 web browser. Could this be the problem?

Yes, Safari is not yet supported by the TinyMCE visual rich text editor that is used by wordpress (TinyMCE problem, not a wordpress problem). Download Firefox or Camino and use that for working with your wordpress blog and your problems will go away. Alternately you can turn off the visual rich text editor, which in essence is the same as using the “code” tab.

Duh-oh, should have included Camino as well (download link at top of page): http://caminobrowser.org/

how about this?
<p> </p>
it will work with any browser. provided you insert it in code mode of course. and you don’t have to switch off rich visual editor either.

With TinyMCE and Safari, in my experience, when you put in
<p> </p>
and then switch back to the visual editor and save, it strips the code out. Each time you save or save and continue editing, it will strip them out. -
Also if you publish the post with the breaks in as you want them, and then edit the post, when it loads into the TinyMCE editor in Safari, again it strips the breaks out.
Safari support with TinyMCE is only listed as “experimental” or “partial” at the TinyMCE website.

@sanjidabd
Yes it does, I really like Safari. Hopefully TinyMCE will get on supporting it now that the final 3.0 version is out.I must admit though that I like Firefox and especially the Web Developer addon. It’s a great tool to have at your fingertips.

FYI, I experienced the same lack-of-spacing issue with K-Meleon 1.1.3 which happens to use the same Gecko engine as Firefox. I thought I’d mention this, just in case there were any other K-Meleon users who were having the same issue. Fortunately, I have Firefox on my PC also, so I’ll just have to switch to that browser when I do updates here. Thanks for your answer TheSacredPath, as just like HallCR3 I was truly stumped this morning when my blog wouldn’t display properly.

Oops, I spoke too soon. I closed K-Meleon and tried to re-edit with FF 2.0.0.11 and same thing, won’t put a space between a paragraph when I press enter (even if I press enter multiple times). Grrr.

I was able to fix the issue by disabling the Rich Visual Editor, though admittedly it took me quite awhile to find that option. But, all is back to normal now.

I have this same problem even using Firefox. This is incredibly frustrating to me, so frustrating in fact that I’m thinking about leaving WordPress because of it. I don’t want to turn off the visual rich editor because that is kind of the point of using wordpress, so you don’t have to figure out your own code. Is there any way to just fix it so that doesn’t happen?

What OS are you using? If Windows, I would suggest going to an offline editor such as WindowsLiveWriter, or BlogDesk – both free. They are not subject to the whims of TinyMCE and/or wordpress. If you are on Mac, then a good free offline editor is Qumana.http://www.blogdesk.org/ (Windows)

Offline editors also have the added benefit of keeping copies of your posts on your hard drive so that you always have a copy.
