can't access front page

  1. Starting about five hours ago, I haven't been able to access my blog's front page. Individual post pages are fine, as is my dashboard, but the home page comes up blank every time. Sometimes, though, when I hit "back," the page appears for a split second before returning to the "cannot display webpage" warning.

Any idea? I use IE 7; my blog URL is http://%5Bemail redacted]. Thanks in advance...

  2. Of course I mean: thesmokingsection.wordpress.com

  3. Since your username is linked to your blog, you don't need to leave the link unless you're talking about a different blog.

It's very strange: using Firefox I see it just fine. When you say the home page is blank, do you mean that there are no contents on the page at all, not even your header or an error message? We have been getting a similar error in the forums as well. If that is the case, you will need to email staff and alert them: support at wordpress dot com. Support will officially reopen in a few hours, but for now that's the way to contact them.

I am assuming that you deleted your cookies and your browser cache and did a reload of the homepage? Try that first and report back.

  4. Thanks for the speedy reply. At best, you see the front page for a split second, if at all, before being redirected to a page telling you that "IE cannot display the webpage." (You know, the one that comes up when a site is down.) A friend confirmed that it looks fine in Firefox, so it's clealy an IE-specific problem. The weird thing is that it happened all of sudden, and wasn't preceded by a new post or any changes to the blog.

Reloading hasn't helped, so I'll contact support when it reopens. Wish me luck!

  5. I think it's specific to your computer. I just tried in IE6 and had no problem whatsoever. There isn't anything on your front page that could be causing your virus scanner to go off or anything. I'm fresh out of ideas, sorry.

Also, love that quote from the Conrad Black trial.

  6. Actually, I think it might be specific to IE version 7.0. I just checked my stat counter, and, since the problem started this afternoon I've had absoluetly no hits from IE 7 browsers, although I've had quite a few from IE 6 (and from the infinitely superior Firefox and Safari). Methinks there is definitely something up...

And yes, that quote should be on a t-shirt, shouldn't it? :)

  7. Okay, yes, that would explain things. Staff needs to know because something on the back end is not compatible with IE7 and they'll want to fix that.

  8. Will do. Thanks for your help...

  9. Just for you I opened up IE7.

I see your blog just fine.

IE7 running on Vista. Connecting from South Korea.

  10. I see it with no problems in Firefox and IE7 as well. Even checked in IE Tab and different resolutions, all fine. You've tried clearing your cache and cookies?

  11. Thanks for having a look. I've cleared my cache/cookies no less than three times now, but the problem persists. As per raincoaster's suggestion, I sent in an email support request last night but haven't heard back from them yet, so if anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them.
