Can't add custom link or category page to custom menu

    Hi,

    As per this guide...

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

    I've been trying to add a custom menu - when I add a page it works fine but as per the guide I am trying to add a custom link to take visitors to an outside page as well as a category page and neither is showing up on my new menu on the home page?

    Any ideas?
