Can't Comment on Other Blogs

  1. When I go to other blogs to leave comments I am asked my user name, I put my username in and submit my comment. Then I get an error message saying " You do not own that identity. "

I have signed into wordpress.com and I am using the same user name as I have there. I am lost as to what to do?

The blog I need help with is adiamondinthestuff.com.

  2. The blog you specified at adiamondinthestuff.com does not appear to be hosted at WordPress.com.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you'll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don't understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It'll help people to answer your question.

    This is an automated message.

  3. My guess is you are referring to commenting on a blogspot blog or a WordPress.org blog.

WordPress.com recognizes your blogger identity but Blogger does not. In reference to Blogger ie. commenting on blogspot blogs the issue is on the other end. Blogspot software assumes we all have a single username here at wordpress.com and only a single blog by the exact same matching name. It will not accept any other URL - invalid URL! it says. Ha!

So if we have a domain, or we have more than one blog registered under the same WordPress.com username, trying to comment and have it link to our wordpress.com blogs becomes impossible, unless the blogspot blogger chooses to enable commenters to post with a username and URL on their Blogger blog.

The only workaround is to register a Blogger blog which will allow you to comment but your username will not be linked to your WordPress.com blog when you do. Then you are labeled as a 'no reply blogger'. It's crazy-making!

Open ID has always failed more often than it has worked.

Bottom line: This is a well known issue. If you simply use the Name/URL option when it's provided then your blog will be linked to your username on the comments you leave on blogspot blogs.

Also note that WordPress.ORG sites are completely separate sites. They are not part of the WordPress.COM blogging community.

If you are not referring to Blogger ie. blogspot blogs then know that WordPress>ORG blogs are not part of the WordPress.COM community and there are separate log-ins.

  4. If this helps: I am blogging within wordpress but I have my hosting through HostGator.

  5. Yes it helps. WordPress.org installs like http://www.adiamondinthestuff.com/ are not part of the WordPress.com blogging community as they are not being free hosted by WordPress.COM on this mulituser blogging platform. WordPress>COM and WordPress>ORG are completely separate and separate logins are required.
    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  6. Ok, so I basically can't leave comments using a "wordpress" username? What would be the best way to leave comments on other blogs?
