I have tried draggin the Press This icon into the favorites bar and can't get it to work. I click and drag and nothing is inserted, probably doing something lame?

Have you tried:

using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled?
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) ? http://browsehappy.com/
using another browser?
