Can't get to first base with JetPack

  1. I've read all of the instructions I can find but can't get the plug in loaded. I'm new to WordPress so any ideas or suggestions?
I read these instructions but they stop short of getting me there. See my comments in CAPS.

Install Jetpack either via the WordPress.org plugin directory, or by uploading the files to your server. I DOWNLOADED JETPACK ON MY iMAC - THEY RESIDE ON MY COMPUTER BUT I CAN'T FIND ANY ACTIVATION FILES TO CAUSE SOMETHING TO HAPPEN.
After activating Jetpack by WordPress.com, YES, I WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS. HOW DO I ACTIVATE. you will be asked to connect to WordPress.com to enable the Jetpack features. I WASN'T ASKED ANYTHING. I CAN SIGN ON TO WORDPRESS.COM WITH MY USER ID. I TRIED TO DOWNLOAD AGAIN FROM THAT SITE (RATHER THAN JETPACK SITE) BUT GET SAME FILES.
Click the connect button WHERE IS THE CONNECT BUTTON? AND I DO THIS BEFORE I LOG IN TO WORDPRESS.COM and log in to a WordPress.com account I CAN LOG IN BUT HOW DO I to authorize the Jetpack connection.
If you don't yet have a WordPress.com account, you can quickly create one after clicking the connect button.
That's it. You're ready to go! YES, GO TO A FORUM FOR HELP.

WOULD APPRECIATE A JETPACK 101 ANYONE. THANKS, CRAIG

The blog I need help with is 2012svr.wordpress.com.

  2. Does the information found at these links help you?
    JetPack FAQs
    JetPack support page
If it doesn't here the link for JetPack support tickets

  3. Thanks, but still not getting there. I have followed your advice to go direct to JetPack. Thanks, Craig

  4. What site are you wanting to install jetpack on?

  5. I would like it to work with my blogsite which is found at the this address.

    http://2012svr.wordpress.com/

    Craig

  6. Jetpack is for self-hosted wordpress installations and it is not needed here. Everything that is in Jetpack was here for every wordpress.COM user long before Jetpack was ever released. There is nothing in Jetpack you do not already have on that blog.

  7. Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate the help. Craig

  8. You are welcome.

  9. @thesacredpath
Guess who did not click the username link or ask what the URL for the blog in question was? Great catch.

  10. Jetpack is basically a dumbed down version of the best features of WP.com that is available for WP.org blogs.
