I'm posting links to several writing samples (http://melissakinsey.wordpress.com/aviation-writing). I want an image at left, with an article link at right. Then, below that, I want to place another image next to another link. But the images and links are bunching up. I've searched the forums to no avail. Thanks!

IMO the best option is to create an HTML table. See > http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp
Please understand that the icons (7, 8, 9) for alignment in the Visual editor are for aligning text and not for aligning images per say. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/
