You don't need to fill all 4 name servers. As for the IPs, try:
72.233.69.14
76.74.159.137
64.34.177.159
thanks!
after a lot of wrangling, I was able to use the name servers on register.com
is there any way that I can map the www subdomain? either through my registrar or through WordPress?
We actually strip out the www. for your convenience, and http://www.generationanalytics.com/ will always redirect to http://generationanalytics.com/
www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.
Mac -- while I agree with the logic of your statement, the reality is that the vast majority of people who use the Internet have become familiar with, and expect, the www subdomain. Leaving www out is like a car door that doesn't shut with a satisfying 'thud'. Sure, it's unnecessary, but it feels so awkward when it's not there! I argue that www should definitely be a part of the WordPress user experience.
Hi there,
Users and readers can still type in "www." when entering the blog address, so hopefully not too many people are thrown off! This has been in effect for some time now, and I'm not sure honestly how much feedback we've gotten on it.
We always appreciate any feedback from our users, especially when it comes with some explanation (as yours does!) I will relay it to the team.
Thank you!
thank you -- I appreciate it!
My pleasure :)
