My blog is a virtual staffroom for a group of teachers. I set up a Twitter account and started following a lot of useful people. I have tried to get the RSS feed for my twitter account re-published on the blog but nothing appears. Any ideas?

There is no way to post automatically to a Wordpress.com blog's content column via RSS. That's a deliberate measure taken by staff to reduce WP.com's attractiveness to spammers and scrapers.
I don't know of ANY way to have the posts of people you're Following get published to the blog, other than to have an RSS widget for every single feed you're following, and even then they'd just show up in the sidebar.
Wordpress.com is essentially a blogging platform, the best in the world. It's not FriendFeed. It's not an aggregator.
