Can't verify claim on Bloglines?

  1. Hi all:

I'm trying to "claim" my blog (christinaalessi.wordpress.com) on bloglines.
In order to do this, Bloglines generated a key to insert into a post and a key to insert into the template.

I inserted the post key and inserted the template key by adding a "text" widget to my template.

I see the post key but do not see the template key when viewing my blog.
Bloglines keeps telling me that my verification has failed.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Has anyone else successfully done this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The blog I need help with is christinaalessi.wordpress.com.

  2. It could be a theme problem, try changing themes, verifying it, then going back to your old one.

  3. Without seeing the actual code you're trying to use, we can't even speculate. Can you paste it here, between backticks so it displays properly?

It could also simply be that it asks you to insert the code into a post and instead you put it in a widget. They are very different things.

  4. Thanks.

Bloglines actually asks you to do both.

I inserted the following key into my most recent post:
    <!-- ckey="34E51921" -->

    http://christinaalessi.wordpress.com/2010/01/19/craft-hope-for-haiti/

Next, Bloglines wants you to insert the following key into the blog's template:
    <!-- ukey="78C2141E" -->

Not knowing exactly what this meant, I put it into a text widget. I'm wondering if I need to add it to the CSS instead? In this case, I will have to upgrade... which I'm trying to avoid.

    Hope this helps.

  5. No, do not add it to the CSS. Bloglines needs to provide some guidance for WP.com bloggers who don't have access to editing their themes. Search around on their site and support documents to see if they have specific instructions for WordPress.COM, not just WordPress.

  6. Ok -I'll give it a shot.
    Thanks for your time!

  7. BlogLines is a feed reader service and a "news aggregator." I have had an account there since 2006. Here's the link to the FAQs http://www.bloglines.com/help/faq

  8. How Do I Sign Up?
Signing up to Bloglines is free and easy. Only an email address and password are required. Click here to register. http://www.bloglines.com/register

Registering with Bloglines allows you to subscribe to and read your favorite news feeds.

Once you register with Bloglines, a validation email is sent to you. Reply to that and your account will be validated.

  9. Thanks Timethief.

I was actually able to register and am able to read the blogs I subscribe to.
My problem is that I was unable to "claim" my blog feed under "publisher tools".

The FAQs didn't seem to offer a solution so I sent them an email.

    Thanks everyone.

  10. This is your feed for posts (entries) http://www.christinaalessi.com/feed/
This is your feed for comments http://www.christinaalessi.com/comments/feed/

    Best wishes. :)

  11. Sometimes these services will automatically connect you with your feed after a time. It can take a week or so, but hopefully they'll give you a solution before then.

  12. You guys are the best.
    Cheers!

  13. Cheers!

  14. I was able to claim my WordPress.com blog at Bloglines.
@sparkletree, like you I went to Publisher Tools in my Bloglines.com account and saw the instructions to claim a feed. I put the post key in a recent post, as you did.
I put the template key in a text widget. Then I hit the verify button at Bloglines. It didn't work at first (last night).
Verification worked when I retried this morning.
I found this old forum post useful:
    http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-embed-the-bloglines-user-key?replies=4#post-99349

That said, Bloglines isn't as important in the blogosphere as it once was.
