Categories acting as tags

  1. I apologize in advance if this has already been covered. But the problem I'm currently having is that when I give a post a 'Category', you click on it and it's acting as a tag. I'm not sure why it's doing it, but it means I'm not able to group all of my posts of a particular subject together.

Any help is appreciated. I'm using the 'Pool' theme if it's of any help or relevance.

  2. I have the same problem. I'm using the theme Andreas09, and I use categories exclusively on my blog. However, after the recent WordPress upgrade / design change, now when I click on a category following a blog entry, it automatically shows that category as a tag and takes me to the global WordPress tags page for that post.

Why did this change, and is there any way to get it back to Categories?

  3. The tags and categories links above or below a post have for a very long time taken you to the global tags pages.

f you click on the category name in the category widget it takes you to a listing of your own local posts - on your blog.

The tags and categories links above or below a post all lead to the global tags pages except on one particular theme, and I cannot remember which one it is.

  4. Any ideas if this will be fixed or altered in the future? It seems odd to me and like it shouldn't work that way. A category should be a category and a tag should be a tag. I don't really want to have a sidebar widget with my categories listed in it. :(

It's strange, because I found that if you import posts from a Blogger.com blog into WordPress, it will display all of your old 'Labels' as 'Categories' and that if you click the categories in your post they will actually link to your categories.

  5. I absolutely 100% doubt this will ever be changed. For various technical reasons it's the key to WP.com's SEO and something of which the staff are very proud.

If you set your blog to Private, it will make all your tags and categories local, but you'll be off search engines, etc.
