Is there a way to have a category as a menu item and not have the sidebar displayed?
Basically, I want it to look more like a regular page rather than what I have on the front page.
The blog I need help with is jmukkpsi.wordpress.com.

You are using the Duster theme and though it does not display widgets on pages when you create a custom menu and include one or more Categories in it there will be widgets appearing on it. I don't know of any way that can be changed except perhaps by CSS editing. If you are experienced with CSS editing and are prepared to purchase an annually renewable CSS upgrade and do the work yourself this may be possible. You can try before you buy here > Appearance > Themes

If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
Also note that CSS is theme specific here at wordpress.com, there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support.
