Category and Tag functionality needs fixing.

  1. I apologize for reposting this, but I was afraid that I might not get feedback without a proper topic title.

Since categories and tags apparently behave the same when they are clicked on, it would be nice if WP allowed me to work with them in the same way. The same widget functionality and the same selection capacity in the post editors (quick and full). I much prefer the widget functionality provided for categories over what's provided for tags. But I prefer the tag selection functionality in the editors over that for categories.

If you look at my blog, you'll see that I use tags to group my posts like volumes in an encyclopedia, while I use categories to allow the reader to create unique groupings according to content. This used to be the other way around, but I was forced to switch them because of the limitations of the tag cloud widget. The unfortunate side-effect of this is that I now have to contend with that awful scroll box when I'm assigning categories to a post.

The blog I need help with is iwanticewater.wordpress.com.

  2. Contact staff directly. Posting in the forum is no guarantee that they will see your request.

  3. Thanks TSP. I'm assuming that you've used the support contact form before. Can you please explain how I'm supposed to translate what I said onto that form?

  4. If you want, just put everything into the first box and then in the last two, just put "see above." That is what I do.

  5. I did. We'll see. ;-)

  6. I got a response back from support. It reads "Thank you for the feedback; I have added this to our user suggestion library for further review." Why am I getting visions of that warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark?

  7. It may turn out that way, or it may not. I've seen more stuff users have asked for over the past six months or so show up than I have in the previous two years, so I have a little more hope for user suggestions than I used to.

  8. Well, for me at least, getting this done will be a "hallelujah!" moment. Now onto my gripes about links...
