Category archives: summary vs. full post
-
After reading a couple of (closed) related posts, I suspect that my theme does not allow full posts of category archives which would be my preference. How can one tell which themes are coded for summaries vs. full posts? Can the code for my theme be modified (by the user) to allow for full posts?
Thanks

Hi there, no, they cannot as it has something to do with the underlying theme we have no access to.
This is a list of themes with their category/tags page behaviour: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/

It’s an easy work-around for you!
Paste all the html from your post into the “excerpt” module below the post editor, in html mode. From cat’s link above ( http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/ )
“Note that the Excerpt box is a plain text editor. So if you want anything other than a simple text summary, you must work your way using html – or temporarily create and format the content in the visual editor of the post, then switch to html, copy the result from there and paste it in the Excerpt box.”
It will work a charm!

Please note that this does not work in all themes, and the paste into the “excerpt” module must be done in HTML mode.

Because you did great work and it saves us work from having to type it all manually? ;)
I’m not a native English speaker either..
Or maybe I just don’t have enough caffeine and am missing the point!

Yes, Misty Look does have an excerpt box. When you are writing or editing a post, it most likely is below your editing module. It may be closed with only the title, “Excerpt” showing. If it’s not there, go up to the top of the screen and open “Screen Options” then click that you want the excerpt module to show.
Copy and paste while in the html editor so your links and pictures will all show. -
Oh my gosh. Obviously there are so many things about WordPress I still have to learn. Thanks 1tess so much!

Hi Robin,
Glad to know you found it!
These help forums were of great help when I first started: I learned quite a lot just reading the q’s and a’s.
