hello
i have activated a theme called matala, i chose it because it has a sort of painted on text box and the menu is on a ripped piece of paper, im mentioning this because when i changed the background i lost both these properties
is there anyway i can change the background but keep this artistic/creative side of the theme

No I'm sorry there isn't. The "creative artistic part" is the background image.

i just read another post that you make but now is close for reply.
I erase my custom background as you recommend us in order to get the original desing, but it didnt work.
i cant see again the "grungy textures and whimsically off-kilter text in the main menu"

yerbabuenacocina, clicking "Remove Background Image" in Appearance → Background will restore the original background image.
