change from wordpress.com to .com

  1. Hi! I am very interested in changing over my blog from bakerymanis.wordpress.com to bakerymanis.com. I can't seem to find any information about what might change during this trasition? does wp forward searches? does the dashboard work in the same way? Is there a support page just for this issue- cause I have not yet found it!

    thanks, andrea

The blog I need help with is bakerymanis.wordpress.com.

  2. When you purchase a domain name and domain mapping your content remains exactly where it is. What happens is that when any of the original bakerymanis.wordpress.com URLs are clicked the visitor is seamlessly directed to the same content under the new bakerymanis.com domain URL. It can take up to 72 hours but rarely does for the domain name change to propagate throughout the internet after you make the purchase and designate the primary domain. You do NOTHING else. In about 4 months time Google will have re-indexed all your content under the .wordpress.com blogs URLs to reflect the new domain URLs. The dashboard operates in the same way -- nothing else changes.

    Read carefully before proceeding:
    domain mapping
Register a new domain through WordPress.com

  3. Do understand this. The content in your bakerymanis.wordpress.com has earned the site pagerank of 2/10. That pagerank belong to the bakerymanis.wordpress.com URLs and cannot be transferred. However, after the domain name change is accomplished and the content is re-index by Google in about 4 months time the blog will probably have the same pagerank it had before.

Also note that although the URLs that will appear to your visitors sill be the domain URLs, when you are on the Admin side of the blog you will see the root blog bakerymanis.wordpress.com URLs and that's normal.

  4. thanks timethief! made the switch, and got swayed into the custom fonts too! I am happy to pay for me years of wordpress joy! aloha, a

  5. You're welcome and best wishes. :)
