I would like to use a page as 'home' for my site and have this easily identified in the page widget contents in the sidebar.
BUT is there any way to keep the widget page listed as 'home' in the sidebar and delete/change the 'home' header in the actual content?

Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We cannot help if we cannot see the blog.
- Change the title of your "Home" page (can be anything, or nothing; I think your front will look too plain in the second case, but that's up to you).
- Get its ID (the number at the end of its URL while you're in the page editor), open the Pages widget, write that number in "Exclude".
- Create a new blank page, and paste this in its title box:
<a href="http://tbmmarketing.wordpress.com/">Home </a>
(You'll also need to assign it the order number you had originally assigned to the renamed page.)
