change my wordpress.com

  • I just registered and realize my site name (name of my novel) is too long. Can I change it before going further? Reduce it in size? Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • If you JUSt registered it, you can ask for a refund within, I believe, 48 hours of the purchase. I think you should keep it, though.

  • Thanks, but what refund? I thought my site would be free.

  • Having this same problem. It looks like there is not a good way to change it online for free (unlike in the software). I think you just have to delete the blog and start a new one.

  • threeatthecenterofrage.wordpress.com. is free – if you bought a custom domain name then there is a 48 hour refund window

Just make a new site for your book with a better name using your existing account – then set the old blog to Private and use it to learn on

Once a blog name (URL) is deleted it can’t be reused and that name is gone forever (your-site.wordpress.com)

  • Thanks for the advice, but when I type in my email, to enter, I’m told it’s in use. Therefore I’m effectively blocked from creating a new website with a new dot com name. Nor do I know how to delete my existing dot com. I’m willing to privatize it and work with the new, but I don’t know to achieve any of it. Stuck!

  • Don’t delete anything!!

When Logged in mouse over your name in the upper right corner of the browser window – click on “My Blogs” – you should then see an Add a blog link – click on it and you should be good to go

  • Okay, when I mouse over my username in the upper right hand corner, I see:
    Find friends
    Manage my blogs
    Help
    Sign out
    threeatthecenterof….
When I click on “Manage my blogs,” nothing happens.
Along the top row of permanent labels that are always visible on this page, I see:
“My Blog.” When I click on that, nothing happens.
I appreciate your help but I’m nowhere. Is there a special way to log in?
    Thanks.

  • I used the (my) url, moused over the username (upper right) and saw beneath it the same old list. Again clicked on “Manage my blog”–nothing. Saw on the far left of the page:
“My Blogs.” Clicked on that and was faced with columns of broken words that would comprise my url, plus other disassembled words on the right. None of which made any sense to me. Thanks but I think I’m ready to quit.

  • To change a blog URL ending in wordpress.com, please follow these steps. Another alternative is to purchase a custom domain name to take “wordpress” out of the domain altogether.

Hope this helps – feel free to contact us if you have any other questions :)

  • Thanks, kardotim. I click on your email: Go to My Blogs page. I have to hover over my username to see my URL at the bottom of a list. I hover the URL & a dropdown lists:
    Dashboard
    New post
    Site stats
    Manage comments
    Read blog.
That’s it. No Change Blog Address. And I don’t see the horizontal window
(topped by “visible” & “hidden”) that your instructions display.
    Stuck again.

  • Could you send us a screenshot of the page where you’re seeing this? You can upload the screenshot to your blog’s media library.

    Thank you!
