Change Width in Ocean Mist theme

  1. I am fiddling with a test site CSS code so that when I get it right, I can apply it to my real blog (rememberthepoor.wordpress.com)

I would like to be able to change the width of the theme (the whole blog- pages, posts, everything). I am brand new to CSS, but I can learn :) I've been hunting around on the forum, but haven't been able to figure it out yet.

    Thank you for your help!

The blog I need help with is testingocean.wordpress.com.

  2. Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and there is very little volunteer support I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own. We have only 1 or 2 Volunteers who do help but they don't provide CSS editing lessons. For that you will have to use tutorials and there are several listed at the head of the CSS customization forum.

  3. This is what a forum search for CSS editing of Ocean Mist produces http://tinyurl.com/y57rdt5

Here's a link to a post by the Volunteer who helps with CSS http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

Here is a link to the support documentation > http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/

  4. thank you timethief. I do have a pretty good understanding of html. I am studying up on CSS (thank you for these links). In the meantime, if anyone sees this question and is able to post a quick answer about how to change the width, that would be helpful. I am pretty much self-taught, but having a model to follow at the beginning is very useful. Thank you!

  5. Okay just so you recognize what a challenge is involved in CSS editing a fixed width theme please read this entry that's on Ocean Mist and CSS editing. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/editing-fixed-width-column-in-ocean-mist?replies=8

  6. With Ocean Mist, to change the width of the content area requires that you change the width of a bunch of stuff. It also - if I'm remembering right - requires that you make some new background images for the content/sidebar area with an image editing program such as photoshop, Gimp, or whatever.
