What is the effect on seo when a blog name (title) is changed (without changing url)?
general settings> site title.
For instance, change from 'gourmettite' to gourmettite recipes', will my rankings go down when I make this change?
I have looked through the forums but I only see posts about url changes.

I don't believe it would affect the seo status of your blog.
The change you propose to make is a minor one - not to worry. :)

I will proceed and change the name to something more interesting.
It changes the results in searches for your actual blog name, but otherwise, in searches for post titles or actual subject matter, it doesn't matter at all.
